  1. Yes, a few. "Person of Interest" and "Elementary" are 2 that I'm watching. There were a couple of others, "Longmire" and "Saving Hope" that I was watching, but they may have already been cancelled, not sure.

That last one has Michael Shanks - formerly Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG1 - of which I was a huge fan.

  2. I'm both happy and sad. I'm delighted that President Obama won, but I fear that nothing is going to change with a Republican majority in the House.

I fear you may be right. It seems some of the more moderate Republicans left office and were replaced by let's say - less moderate Republicans. That doesn't bode well for compromise among the 2 parties.

  3. ^ I wonder how that is going to work. Just walk into a convenience store with 1 ounce bags hanging on the wall next to Trojans!!!! What will the slogan be, "Get high and have sex"??? Will they tax it as tobacco or will they come up with a new name to get a higher tax rate? This should have been thought out years before it was put on the ballot. God knows MJ is not new and people have had centuries to get a clue. Obviously, they were too busy smoking to have the answers ready and now only have 1 year to figure it out!!

The plan appears to be to treat sales of marijuana like they do alcohol. You have to be 21 to buy it, and if you're under 21, any amount in your bloodstream is a violation of the law. In the State of Washington, we only privatized the sale of alcohol earlier this year. Previously, it had been sold only in state run liquor stores. I suppose yes, you'll be able to walk into the corner grocery store and buy weed eventually. Again - assuming the minor matter of it being a federal crime can get worked out.

  4. I live in the State of Washington. I have to say I'm shocked that this initiative passed, and passed in a landslide. Who knew I lived with so many stoners? What I'm hearing is that in 30 days, it will be legal to possess an ounce, but there is a one year period for the State to figure out how to sell it and tax it before we'll see actual legal sales. They're estimating nearly 2 billion dollars in tax revenue in the next 5 years - including the one year waiting period.

And of course the conflict with federal law has to be worked out. What the Seattle U.S. Attorney says is that the federal government "has no plans except to talk". We shall see.

EDIT: Forgot to add - there is a DUI aspect to this initiative. They have included a provision that a specific amount of THC in the blood stream will indicate impairment to drive. The irony there is that many people that supported legalization actually opposed this initiative because of the inclusion of this DUI provision. They believe it is not a good indication of impairment - everyone has different tolerances - and it does not provide for medicinal marijuana use.
