From what I've heard, Mike Nesmith won't be with Peter and Micky on this tour. Too bad, he's a good player and he wrote some cool songs.

Great song. And it always reminds of this one by the Oneders! -

Wow! Super cool - never seen that before. And Jim Keltner on cowbell, and was that Joe Walsh on the slide guitar? Sure looked like him. -

Interesting. I've somehow never heard those songs, and never heard of the band Merry-Go-Round before. Quick lookup........turns out they weren't around long and had almost zero chart success. I wasn't quite listening to the radio yet during their time. My pop music days started a short time later than these guys. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Merry-Go-Round -
Well Mudcrutch has never had a "hit" single, so there's no way to compare their setlist philosophy with TPATH. They're just out there having fun with this. But if they're going to play songs from the new album on this "tour", it would be nice to have the album so we can be familiar with the songs in advance.

Very sad to hear this. George Martin was the 5th Beatle. RIP George.

I'm not quite following. The version of "Breakdown" on Playback is the studio version. The live version on "Pack Up The Plantation" isn't the one either - that one has a horn section, which they didn't have back in the club days. Could it be the July 1978 WBCN recording from the Paradise in Boston? I just don't remember the version that was played on the radio back then well enough to say one way or the other. Was the live "Breakdown" ever released as a "B" side to anything back then? I never collected all of those singles.

Regarding the live version of "Rhino Skin", I would have loved to see them do a finish like "Runnin' Down A Dream" where Mike takes off with a solo to the end and whips the crowd into a frenzy. The song starts quiet with a slow build up in energy. I think it would really have worked well. Look at what the band did with "Takin' My Time" in it's limited play on the Mojo tour. That song starts quite slow as you know, but finishes strong, powerful, and loud with a Mike Campbell solo - and the crowd seemed to love it. Who knows, maybe some day they'll take another shot at "Rhino Skin".
-
I don't know if you've heard a live version from the Echo tour? "Rhino Skin" goes for about 5 1/2 minutes with some nice guitar work by Mike, and then strangely it evolved into a harmonica section that slowly does a fade out. Really did not do justice to the song at all, in my opinion. It goes out with a whimper when it could have really been a bang. The other thing was - the crowd just wasn't into it. They were talking, and I suppose waiting for "Free Fallin'". Which is probably why the song got dropped from the set list. Most of the crowd didn't dig it.
-
Yes, we do extend some jams. "It's Good To Be King", and "Rhino Skin" come to mind.
-
From "Mojo" I think only "Don't Pull Me Over" a couple of times. But other Tom Petty songs? More than I can count. I think just from "Echo" we've done 8 songs. From "The Last DJ" we regularly play the title song, and "When A Kid Goes Bad", and we've done a couple of the others from that record. "Walls" is a regular in the setlist, and last week we played "Hung Up And Overdue". We've also done "Angel Dream", "California" and "Change The Locks" off "She's The One", and a dozen or so of the songs on "Wildflowers" at one time or another. And on and on back into the catalog. We are a bunch of Tom Petty fanatics in my band. Which is fine with me. :-)

Heck yeah! Live at Budokan! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azzohtp_4KU -
Don't bother. I'm going to win that one. :-) They do a lot of guitar giveaways on Epiphone's website. Everyone should sign up!

"Don't Pull Me Over" was my wife and daughter's favorite song on the record. I like it a lot too, for some of the reasons you've mentioned. The other one I like, and my band covers it sometimes, is "Candy". Seems really simple, but it's got a great groove and people dance to it.
-
It's true, Mike. I don't need another amp either, but you know how G.A.S. works! In addition to the ones I mentioned, I have a Marshall head that I plug into a 4x12 cabinet when I want to peel paint. LOL Usually, I just dial in the crunch with a tube screamer. Puts all the hair I want on it, at whatever volume. Still, I would like to play with a Princeton. There's a reason they cost so damn much. They're really cool, and they're a great compromise between low power, lightweight, and still loud enough to gig with.
-
Paul's Mall, huh? Is that recording available anywhere? I haven't seen it on any bootleg, or heard it for many years.
-
Yeah, probably no need to re-make "Wild Eyes' on the new album, but I'd love to hear them play it during the tour!

Funny! I've never heard that version before. I always thought it was a Cheap Trick song. LOL -
You dumped my 2 favorite songs on the record. LOL
