I can still get to the forum, but there isn't anything being revealed there either.

This is one where the live version won me over. I guess it just sounds less "mechanical" than the studio version. More real. But I'm not big on the "Let Me Up" album overall. After that record is when Tom and the band really caught fire.

Yeah, how about that? I did not expect this season to unfold the way it has, but after 17 years of the M's not making the playoffs, how could we expect this? We're just enjoying it a lot, and getting out to the park every chance we can.
I have no illusion about catching the Astros - looking far ahead and taking a bunch for granted - we're looking at a 1 game playoff with either the Yankees or the Red Sox, whoever finishes 2nd in the East. Hopefully, we can have Paxton ready to throw that game, and we'll take our chances with him on the mound. I'd sure love to win that game so that we can get Felix a post-season start for the first time in his career. And this may be his last year. Big smiles and fingers crossed over here.

I posted this on the TP forum also, but you guys talk more over here.....
Anyway, I just picked up the HDTracks hi-res versions of "Echo" and "The Last DJ". I'm spinning "Echo" and I hear a definite lyric change on "About To Give Out".
My original CD has the line "Davy Crockett in a coonskin town" repeated a few times throughout the song, but the HD Tracks version says something like "Davy Crockett in a cool-ass town". Not 100% certain on that lyric, but it's definitely changed from the original.
I thought these HD Tracks were just remastered, but this is clearly re-recorded. Which begs the question: Why?
Was this an attempt at political correctness? What say you?

Funny! We do the same thing. Every birthday for anyone in my family, we spin "Birthday" in the car on the way out to eat, or somewhere along in the evening, that song is always played. Always.

Wow, that is beautiful. Yes, looks a lot like Grohl's signature ES-335 from Gibson. Is it fully hollow, or semi-hollow?

Jon - thanks for popping in. I think most people get that you were an important part in getting airplay for Tom's records, and you're not just "cashing in". I'm looking forward to reading your book. Congratulations on that, and condolences on losing your friend.

Happy Birthday Benny!

I assume the last Hollywood Bowl show was recorded, so probably the last song they played that night. "American Girl"? But you were talking about "in the studio"....

Hmmm.....tempting. I'm not big on solid state amps, but that does look cute. I guess it does have a pre-amp tube though. I like the chrome stand, and I don't mind the digital reverb. I use a reverb pedal most of the time already. But I think I have this sonic territory covered with my AC15TBX.

Don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised. He wrote "Down South" after reading Warren Zane's "Dusty In Memphis" - in which Zanes used the phrase "down south" a number of times. Inspiration can come from anywhere.

My random though today is I've had entirely too many visits to the dentist this year. Had a tooth pulled yesterday and my mouth is still angry.

Those are cool - kind of a more blingy version of George's DuoJet. I'm just not a Gretsch guy. I have '67 Chet, but I just find it unwieldy and I'm not a huge fan of the tone. The Penguin would be closer to Les Paul territory - which I also have covered. They do look nice though.

Sorry - is the new name of the band "Fleetwood Mike", or is it "Finnwood Mac"? Guess it depends on which side of the stage you're standing on. Anyway, it should be really good with some new energy injected. But I do hope they put out a DVD, because I won't be splurging for concert tickets.
Hey Mr. Blue Sky - question about the "64 Les Paul you mentioned. Are you sure? I don't think Gibson made any Les Paul models during those early/mid 60's years. Did you mean "54 Goldtop?
-
Yeah, I saw that clip of Paul. Wow - that was the greatest Beatle thing I've seen in years. That bit in the pub? Awesome. I gotta say - Paul makes me cry. I'm a 60 year old man. WTF is that?

I suppose the deal with my buddy that quit the band, was bigger than just that one incident. I tried to examine my behavior and I'm pretty sure there was some kind of buildup to that day. Anyway, the group now has been the same for about 10 years. We played for about 6 hours yesterday, in fact - and had a great time. We're going to play on my 60th birthday in 3 weeks. Just a barbecue with families and friends. These are always a good time.
We do normally stop songs during the learning process and talk about parts, talk about harmonies, things like that. If I took anything from my earlier friend's departure, it was a raised awareness of what I say to the band. So I guess something positive came out of that.

Happy Birthday, Sir Paul! I saw him when he was 63 and hoped he'd play "When I'm 64", but no. I can't really explain it, but it was all I could do to not cry.
-
I don't, but I have been looking at this one......

I've been playing with the same core group of guys - bass, drums, and me on guitar - for about 25 years, with others floating in and out of the band over that time. I had the experience of trying to show the other guitarist in the band at the time - a part that I wanted him to play. He quit the band after that day. He just never came back, or answered any of my attempts to reach him. And this was a friend that I had previously worked with, played golf with, took trips with. I didn't really understand why he left, but I decided I was never again going to instruct anyone on what to play.

I go back to the first album and we started hearing "Breakdown", "Anything That's Rock & Roll", and "American Girl" on the radio. I didn't buy the album until much later, probably after the 3rd album came out. For sure by "Hard Promises", I had everything up to that point. I didn't buy the Greatest Hits album until long after it came out. Somehow, I still have an unopened copy of the CD sitting here. Having said all that, my favorite TPATH record is probably "Echo".

I bought one of these "Collegiate Series" guitars featuring my local school. They are poorly made using cheap parts, with little concern for playability. They are essentially $99 Epiphone Les Paul Junior models, and it's questionable whether they're worth that much. I bought the first (and still only) one I've ever seen featuring the University of Washington, off my local Craigslist. I've never seen a UW one on eBay, and I have a search saved that is always looking. They are cool wall hangers, though.
-
You can be like Mike! They're not good guitars, but they do look cool hanging on the wall. I don't see them come up for sale often, but here's one...

"Sweetheart of the Rodeo" is not my favorite Byrds album, but this cannot be missed.

So if my math is right, something will happen at 8:00 am Pacific time on Wednesday morning? Gotta be the Wildflowers release we've been hearing about for years, doesn't it?
