I'm sure I'll buy anything that comes out, but please - no "Girl On LSD". That is a joke song, and has no place in a greatest hits type of package.

I picked test answer 2. What did I win?

Not as far as their wives knew.

Great song from a great album. I reallly think the band liked the "Echo" record. I know I've heard Benmont say as much. "Swingin'" is a fun song to play. I love the harp, the riffs that Mike plays, and of course Tom's vocal. I did see them play 'Swingin' at Red Rocks one of the nights, and it was a very pleasant surprise.
Playing something from "Echo" makes sense - after all it was a 40th anniversary tour meant to be celebrating the entire catalog. I would have been happy with anything from "Echo", but "Swingin' really made me smile.

Look - the Super Deluxe package carries a steep price - I get that. Still - any complaint about price is not valid, in my opinion. There is a much less expensive package that includes ALL of the same music. That is 4 CD's for about $25. Show me another artist that does that.
There is truly something for everyone here and my point was - it's not a fair criticism to insult the band or their fans just because someone can't or won't afford the more expensive offering. -
I'm confident that the book is not "jewel case" size. That picture of the CD package - and this pic of the book next to the vinyl are not to scale. I expect the package will be album size like the Live Anthology was, and the book will be substantial. Rather than insulting those that are purchasing the Super Deluxe package, maybe one should buy the one they want and just enjoy that.

So here's their list - I'd say it's a pretty good try. I'm not a metal guy, so I'd probably swap out the Ibanez for an Epiphone Casino, but I could live with the rest.
10 - Gibson Explorer
9 - Ibanez Jem
8 - Gibson Flying V
7 - Rickenbacker 300 series
6 - Gibson SG
5 - Gretsch 6120 (Chet Atkins)
4 - Gibson ES-335
3 - Fender Telecaster
2 - Fender Stratocaster
1 - Gibson Les Paul

Do you guys jam at all? Any video footage of this you'd like to share? Sounds like quite a fun b-day.
cheer
We jam sometimes - the time before this we did a long version of Rhino Skin and I got to play an extended solo. We don't record video usually, but we always record audio through our board. One of the guys goes through it and mixes whatever he thinks sounds OK, and then I get to hear it.

Thanks everyone! We had a great time yesterday!

Thanks Nurk. It is going to be a fun day. We're having a big barbecue, the band is playing, and the weather is perfect. Plenty of Tom Petty songs will be played, and it should be a blast!
-
Maybe the single worst picture of Tom I've ever seen.
-
Yeah, sadly it was near the end for him though. His voice was not great, but a huge smile never left his face all night. The band were all clearly having a blast, and so did we. It was a summer evening outdoor concert, and the weather was perfect. RIP Levon.

Yeah, great song. "Northern Lights" might be my favorite album by The Band. "It Makes No Difference" is maybe Rick's best song, and "Ophelia" is a great one for Levon. He played it the last time I saw him. The Band's last tour in 1976 was fantastic, culminating of course with The Last Waltz. There are a couple of great bootlegs from that tour that I like better than The Last Waltz.

What Benmont is doing in that new song reminds me of "Getting Better" off Sgt. Pepper. Nice song.
I went ahead and ordered the deluxe set. If there's a blu-ray later, I'll get that too. Yes, it's spendy, but my concert fund won't need to be attended to so much any more, so what the heck. And hey - I noticed on my receipt after making the purchase, it says "10 left" for the digital download of the single. Anyone else see anything like that?

Will there ever be a deluxe edition version of "Wildflowers"?? Thanks. "Wildflowers" is not only my favorite Petty album by a good distance, it is my favorite rock album of the past 30 years.
Best guess I've seen - they release "All The Rest" in 2019 on the 25th anniversary of Wildflowers. Sounds reasonable to me. If they're didn't intend to follow through with that, I think we would have seen a lot more Wildflowers on this upcoming set here.

The price is what - $45 for the 4 CD's? That is a great price. I do not understand anyone complaining about the price. The 'deluxe' package includes the hardcover book - which is why it's so much. Having said that, I haven't bought either one yet. Still trying to decide if they're going to release a blu-ray version after I buy the deluxe set. I do want the book.
-
That super deluxe price point would make more sense to me if it included a blu-ray disc of everything - like the Live Anthology deluxe package did. Where is the blu-ray? I'm not buying the deluxe package just yet. Blu-ray please!

Yes, ATWR changes up the chord progression, but I'm not the only one to notice the resemblance. Stanley called the song "Re-Fallin".
Regarding the sheet music books - they are often wrong, or at least not showing the proper execution of the chords. For instance the "Full Moon Fever" book shows "Free Fallin'" played in "F". Well yes, except Tom played it in "E" with a capo on 1. That kind of thing. You can't make all those suspended chords that Tom used all the time unless you use the capo like he did.
-
^ Great song.
-
Well, you know that riff in "All The Wrong Reasons" uses the same chords in the same key as both "Free Fallin'", and "Don't Come Around Here No More". Tom really found something he liked there. Try it out - capo on 1.
-
If we're wishing - I'd like the Wildflowers material we've been drooling over for a few years now, and also a live record from the last tour. Beyond that I'm open to whatever comes along. I like the guitar idea - except not a toy like the Wilbury's one - a real guitar. Probably a Telecaster tricked up with some TPATH graphics, but a stage-worthy guitar.
Ooh - and I want the guitar strap that I saw Tom using. I'll post a picture of it, if I can find it later when I get home.

That site makes me buy a lot of music. Every time I read some enthusiastic review of something, I end up buying it.
