Steve Winwood at the Count Basie Theater 2/10/2010

All I can say is WOW what a time we had at the Steve Winwood concerts! What a whirlwind last 4 days. Checked into the Hampton in Mystic CT and then headed over to Foxwood's casino for the concert. We had front row seats at the MGM Grand!!! My sister had a front row center stage seat. The band came out and it was so nice to hear those songs again. I could not help remininsing how Steve and the band opened for Tom in 2008. They sounded so good and it was invigorating to be there. The only thing the whole crowd was seated through the concert!! My sister and I could only tap our feet for so long. I was on the edge of my seat ready to spring to action at any moment. Even members of the band were enticing the audience to get up, dance and enjoy the music. Next to my sister was an older tall thin man with a long white beard. He got up and danced the night away. I noticed the band smiling at him from time to time. Good for him!! When I heard the opening chords of Higher Love that was it. My sister and I sprang to our feet and never sat down again. Sorry to the folks behind us, but as I said, one can only tap your feet for so long. Drove the 3 hours home and started preparing for the trip the following day to Atlantic City. The next day started out for New Jersey. My husband nicely offered to drive my sister and I without having any intention of going to the concert. My sister was a little nervous driving through NYC. So we all headed out for the 6 plus hour trip to NJ.Checked ino a very lovely hotel The Seaview Resort and Spa in Galloway, NJ. What character this huge white older hotel had. Yes, you could see the ocean for the great front room. Prepared for the concert and drove into the night to Caesar's Palace in Atlantic City. What a site at night with all the lights and impressive buildings. I had been to Vegas before but not Atlantic City. The theater in Caesar's Place was the site of the concert. Definitely one of the smaller venues that I have been to. We had 3rd row seats but we were closer than we had been at the MGM grand with 1st row seats! So close to the stage, the people could touch the stage if they stretched out their arm. There was no barrier or security guards between the crowd and the stage. The band came out and it was so nice to get a semblance of recognition!! They sounded so good! Again though the entire crowd was seated and we were on the edge of our seats ready to jump up at any time. Heard Higher Love and that did it. I told these 2 young men in our row -OK guys get up, it's time and the 4 of us danced away the rest of the show. Again the band tried to get the crowd to stand. It was only during the encore the majority of the crowd stood, danced and enjoyed the music. I did write the songs down with the exception of the 2 that I did not know the titles of. Here is the setlist for 2/14: I'm a Man Hungry Man Can't Find my Way Home Dirty City Fly Light Up or Leave Me Alone, (long extended version with each musician spotlighted) Higher Love Dear Mr. Fantasy Gimme Some Lovin The last 3 songs were the encore. After the show some of the band members came out to dissassemble their equipment. I was able to shake the hand of Richard Bailey ( drummer)!! Paul also allowed his picture to be taken with a young girl and her brother. What a wonderful last 4 days and to think last week at this time I did not know we would be seeing the talents of Steve Winwood and the band!!! Hoefully I'll post pictures later this week, just have a few. -

Steve Winwood to play SuperBowl Preshow
Trishia4 replied to WildflowerNJ's topic in Anything That's Rock N Roll
As of today I happily announce I am going to see Steve Winwood on Friday in CT, and Atlantic City on Sunday. Front row and third row with great prices, stub hub. My sister called me this am and said why are we not going? I sent her the link to the pregame performance and that's all it took!! Excited!!! You have an awesome time too WildflowerNJ, meeting Steve, let us know how that goes. Glad to hear the thought is he'll be with the band from the pregame show. My sister has a picture taken of her with one of the band members! -
Most likely a nursing journal.

I missed Steve's performance yesterday ( too involved in watching the puppy bowl). I forgot it was the pregame show. Thanks for sharing, I wondered what he sang. I also wonder what band will be accompanying him when he plays on the East coast this month. I am tempted to get tickets. -
I am watching but don't really care who wins.

Cats since we have 4 of them, dogs are very nice too. I like the movie of Smokey enjoying the snow!
