  8. I'm in that same boat Kneb. I have maybe one friend who likes a fraction of the music I do but they don't really get that deep into it. Everyone I know either lakes modern music on the radio or Dave Matthews which I loathe. It's hard. I sit down and listen to The Band or Bob Dylan and a friend might go, "What the hell are you listening to?" I've even had several people ask me before who is Bob Dylan Happened in college back in February. On a Thursday night I was hanging out in my dorm room, me and my roommate had the door open and I was listening to Bob Dylan. These two random girls from our floor walk in and just randomly start hanging out in our room for like 10 minutes. One of them goes to me, "What the hell is this crap your listening to?" I go, "It's Bob Dylan, Desolation Row. A great song and great music made by him." She goes, "Oh I love Bob Dylan" and continues to push me aside while browsing my iTunes in which she stumbles upon TPATH and tells me to play American Girl so she can sing it. People just don't give a damn about hearing true artistry when it comes to music. They want to be entertained and dance. Our generation has little patience and a little attention span and a song like Desolation Row by Dylan which clocks in at over 11 minutes would not be able to grab the attention of the modern generation even if it does have some of the greatest poetry embedded into it. I also though don't think music without solos is bad. I mean R.E.M is a great band but as we all know, Peter Buck barely ever plays a solo and guitar greats like Mike Campbell, George Harrison, Keith Richards kept it more subtle and not a long winded thing but something melodic and to the point. It doesn't have to be a grand scale thing like a jam band deal to be a great piece of work but when it's done right, you just know. People also don't of our generation don't go to concerts anymore for the experience to sit and enjoy music. They go to party and get tanked and just be a nuiscance. When I go see TPATH I make damn well sure I get up close and personal to enjoy the music and take in the entire experience so I can revel in the greatness that is being created within that 2 hour span. But you see people all the time just acting like asses and never really paying attention. Like during the 08 tour when I went and saw them at Darien Lake. The second they started playing YDKHIF, the two guys in front of me (of my generation) who didn't give a damn for the entire show started to because they lighted up their joints and bowls and just started saying joint over and over again. It's really a pain to be honest. I don't know a single soul besides like my dad and my friends mom who I could probably have a great discussion on music with. I can't go to someone and say, "Byrds with Roger doing lead or Clarence White?" or anything of the like. Not even contemporary music I like can I do anything to talk about with such as with bands like The Wallflowers or Belle and Sebastian or the Apples In Stereo or Wilco. It's an uphill battle. Thankfully my friend and roommate was a huge music fan and we got into huge discussions about music but they were generally one sided because well......he's a Dave Matthews/Regae/Ska music fan and I'm a rock/folk/alt country fan
