Hi Everyone,

I just found this wonderful site. Can someone please help me know why Tom Petty does not have any concerts scheduled? When will we see him again?

Hello Gypsyrose and welcome!

Well, this band has been very busy touring this decade. They toured in '01, twice in '02, and then once each in '03, '05, and '06 (their 30th anniversary and there was a ton of press that year) and two tours in '08, one of which was with Mudcrutch. As you can see, touring has eaten up a lot of their time recently. It's amazing to me that they have toured with this much frequency.

A very safe bet is that the band wants to record again and work on other projects that keep getting put off. One of those is a multi-disc set of live cuts performed over the years we keep hearing bits about. And the men that make up the Heartbreakers all have muscial projects and work with people outside of the band. Also, Tom has said many times that he doesn't write while on tour. He most definately he wants to write and release new material. This takes time.

Another safe bet is that maybe they want to take it down a few gears, especially Tom. It's He has kept such a very full schedule: appearing on The Simpsons once in 2002, on King Of The Hill as a recurring character since 2004, hosting his radio show, Buried Treasure on XM since 2004; releasing a book, Conversations With Tom Petty in 2005; the album Highway Companion in 2006; working off and on over the course of almost two years on the documentary Runnin' Down A Dream (which incidentally won a Grammy this past February) and having to approve everything and have some involvement with the companion book to the documentary. Then in 2007 he decided to see if Mudcrutch would be interested in reuniting. They were, and recorded an album that was released in April 2008. We can't forget they played the Half Time show at the Super Bowl in 2008 as well. I mean, Tom's been one very busy dude, to say the absolute least. I don't know how he's found the time to tour and do all of this. I couldn't blame him one bit for wanting to take some time off. And Tom will turn 59 this October. The rest of the band's ages are very near that. And you have to think about the time it takes to recover from touring and trying to live a normal life.

Last fall, there was talk of a Eurpoean tour this summer, which would be their first since 1992. But it's already nearing the end of April and we haven't heard anything else about it, so we're doubting it will happen, at least for when it was originally very tentatively scheduled. There's also been talk of another Mudcrutch tour, but nothing definate.

Again, welcome to this forum! Hope I enlighted you a bit. :)

welcome gypsy, my guess is that they are pretty busy, supposedly putting together a new live album, plus they each have side projects going on. mike with the dirty knobs, benmont with sarah watkins and possibly more plans with mudcrutch.

Hi Gypsyrose! Welcome to the farm.

knebworth certainly gave a detailed summary of what the band's been up to. Putting it all in one post makes me aware of how amazingly hardworking Tom and the band are!

Thanks knebworth!

^ You're welcome! When you start listing everything, it gets long pretty quickly! Every year there's been "something big" going on!!

Welcome to the farm!

(I think the real reason the band isn't touring is that they can't remember where they parked the tour bus last and have not been able to find it.)

Welcome, Gypsyrose. Great question, and great answer, Knebworth. You can't add anything to that (well, unless you are Steve, and then you can add a very humorous comment).

Actually, I did forget something. :icon_redface: The Traveling Wilburys Collection's release in 2007. Tom and Jeff did some interviews for that as well, and probably had something to do with the packaging or design, as well as Roy's and George's estates, and Bob of course.

Thanks TwoGunslingers, one of your posts reminded me!

Great answer, Steve!! :045:
