Motely Crue star Nikki Sixx has lashed out at teen sensations Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers because they're considered the new faces of rock 'n' roll.

The hard-living bass player reveals he was sickened by a recent trip to his local record store when he found the Disney darlings in the rock 'n' roll section.

Sixx rages, "There's a lot of s**t out there where people are calling it rock. I went into Barnes & Noble the other day, and there's a huge display that says 'rock 'n' roll,' and it had a big thing of Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers.

"I went, 'What the f**k is this?' People are believing that s**t that is not rock 'n' roll (and) is not the rock lifestyle is rock!"

I also agree, but have to chuckle, because when all the 80's hair metal bands like the Crue first released stuff, my friends all said "that wimpy crap isn't real rock !" and made fun of me for liking them.

But just exactly what IS considered "rock and roll" these days? Because personally, I wouldn't consider Motley Crue rock and roll, I consider them Heavy Metal.

there's a fine line between rock, metal, blues and most types of music. the people that make it big played it all on their way up. so i think it's ultimately up to the listener to decide what they call the music they listen to. after all, would you call tpath, rock, blues or just oldies at this stage of the game? it's all up to the person listening to the music. personally i do not have my tpath albums and cd's in an oldies section, it's just good old rock and roll to me.

I think Motley Crue got lumped in with metal because of the time they hit the scene (in the hair band craze of the 80's). I don't consider them metal anymore than I would consider Aerosmith heavy metal.. I've seen them classified as metal in some articles... or even AC/DC. I consider Motley Crue rock.

I know what you mean Patty. I always find it funny when they classify Heart as a heavy metal band, lol.

Since I teach middle school, I see a lot of Jonas Brothers pictures on notebooks so they are definitely the flavor of the month. I don't think Nikki Sixx needs to be putting these younger successful people down since he isn't the role model you would want your kids to follow. Until they mess up, they are actually suppose to be good role models for the younger folks. I kinda think the Jonas Brothers are cute, and I even like Miley too. I guess it is more pop; but the song Miley sang on The Today Show was actually pretty rockin'.

I think his problem was that they were classified as "rock 'n roll" is all.

Hey I've been to some Jonas Brothers concerts with my daughter and... um... I'm not sure what they sing, to be honest - I can't hear them over the screams!

Me too. In my mind, heavy metal is stuff like Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Zep, and Iron Maiden- the Guinesses of metal. I think of the Crue as Metal Lite, more like a Coors or something. Like Nurk said, it's mostly in the mind of the listener, but the sillier the hair, the less I tend to see it as "heavy".

As for the Jonases- role models of what ? Mindless marketing and consumption ?
