View Full Version : 'Tom Petty's Buried Treasure' Season 3
Refugee

WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- It was announced today that Tom Petty will be returning for another season of his celebrated XM show, "Tom Petty's Buried Treasure." With the first installment premiering Monday, September 24, "Tom Petty's Buried Treasure" will continue to blend favorite tracks from Petty's personal collection, forgotten masterworks from the garages and used record bins of the world, and live-in-concert classics recorded by rock and roll's most inspired practitioners. At the heart of the hour long show will be Tom Petty himself, providing informed, often hilarious, and always passionate commentary on the music that he loves best.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20070313/XMLOGO )
Among the very first artist-presented XM shows, "Tom Petty's Buried Treasure" has helped to usher in a new wave of inventive radio programming: shows based on the core idea that even the legends of popular music are, at the end of the day, listeners and fans themselves. Petty's show reveals the simple but striking truth that the best way to understand a musician is to let them spin some records. The intimacy of the format remains the show's hallmark.
Petty will treat fans to song such as Lee Dorsey's "Ride Your Pony," The Searchers' "He's Got No Love," and The Pyramids' "Penetration," among others, when the season premiere of "Buried Treasure" airs Monday, September 24 at 10 a.m. ET on XM's deep classic rock channel, "Deep Tracks" (XM 40). Beginning in October, "Buried Treasure" will move to Thursdays on XM 40.
New for this season, "Tom Petty's Buried Treasure" will also be available all day every Thursday on "XMX" (XM 2), a recently launched channel that provides fans with XM's most popular and critically-acclaimed original music shows all in one place. The XMX schedule is built around a 'program of the day' format designed to provide more opportunities to tune in anytime and listen to episode premieres or catch up on episodes from previous weeks or seasons.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have been together for more than three decades. Their career has yielded 18 Grammy nominations, induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and lifetime achievement awards from organizations including Billboard and MTV. This fall a Peter Bogdanovich-directed documentary, Runnin' Down A Dream: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, tells the band's story in all its remarkable detail.
More information about "Tom Petty's Buried Treasure," including complete broadcast schedules, is available online at http://www.xmradio.com/tompetty.

Just another 'vote' for how good a site you have here Ryan.
Hopefully Ill be able to tune in Tom's show when it airs. It seems like I never hear them when they first air due to when they play him. But the fact that he is doing another bunch of 'Buried Treasure' shows is wonderful.

To access XM radio online from wherever you might want to try this. I have a feeling this probably won't work for people outside the US so don't get your hopes up. It's certainly worth a try though. It's also a free service (with ads) so people in the US might want to try this as well if you don't have an XM subscription. This is what I did last year when Tom's show was on.
You can only do this with the following browsers:
Internet Explorer
Netscape
Firefox
(You might also have to install an "add-on" that your browser will advise you about to have it work).
1). Go to www.aol.com (http://www.aol.com)
2). At the top/righthand side click on "AOL Radio with XM".
3). Top of page click on "LISTEN NOW".
4). Another window will come up. Click on "Listen Now".
5). The AOL Radio window will show up.
Scroll down "Stations by Category" and click on the little box "+" next to "XM Satellite Radio".
6). Scroll down to "XM Deep Tracks" and click it twice.
7). Listen to "Buried Treasure" at the appropriate day and time. That's it.
I hope that might help a few people. It probably won't but give it a try, you never know.
Wow. Ryan! I saw Mudcrutch listed on the XM page as well. That was extremely impressive. Congratulations! :)

Last season he did 25 shows. I hope he does another Christmas show this year. It was the best!
In January, Deep Tracks usually plays their catalog from A to Z. It usually takes about a month. Tom's show goes on hiatus and then comes back. Boo!

There were so many great songs this week. I enjoyed this show a lot. I really loved the The Strangeloves, The Poets....That Fleetwood Mac song was awesome! Anna would have loved that.
I'm always surprised at how much I love to hear Chuck Berry. I love his voice. Tom said it was the first song he put out after getting out of jail. He did 18 months. I wonder what he did to get jail time.
Toots & The Maytal's Take Me Home Country Road was cool. I really liked that.
Keith Richards Wicked As It Seems was ROCKIN'! I love that song! I need to check out more of Keith's solo work.
I was surprised at how much I liked the Paul and Linda McCartney song. It was nice.
Koko Taylor is a firecracker!
Thanks Tom!

Damn and blast... they are supposed to play a new show today monday ... Here we go again with the Strangeloves.... I am so frustrated. Can they have changed the programming completely ? Run the newest show on Wednesday instead of Monday now as you suggested Marion. ..
Could it be I threw everybody out of the house for nothing  (not entirely true but made sure I had nothing else to do !!!)
I am so nuts about that show I might even get up at two to listen to it... anyone's a shrink here I think I need one fast...:119:

Hi
XM Radio answered my query.
So either you listen to TP's shows through the aol webpage - explained in this thread earlier (if you don't land to the french page like I did that does not work) or use a Trial profile.
"Thank you for contacting XM.
We are more than happy to assist you. XM is currently only licensed to provide
service to the US (All states except Alaska and Hawaii), its territories and
adjacent waters. Outside of these areas XM is very careful to not exceed the
signal strength defined by international regulations. At some locations outside
the defined service area, however, even if XM is within the transmission limits,
the signal level is still strong enough for you to receive service. In general,
it is not easy to answer coverage questions for locations outside of the U.S.
since XM has not designed the system to work and has not tested outside the U.S.
As well all XM customers need to provide a U.S. mailing address to subscribe to
our service.
If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to send an additional email
or you may contact a Listener Care Representative directly at 1-800-XM RADIO
(800-967-2346). Our Listener Care Center's hours of operation are as follows:
Monday - Saturday: 8 AM - 11 PM ET
Sunday: 8AM - 8PM ET"
Anyone's got a brilliant idea ?

I'm all sweatty and grumpy but here's the playlist again... and believe it or not these bunch of nice guys at XMX did NOT GIVE ANY TITLES NOR ARTIST NAMES today ... just xm satellite radio - XM Exclusives all the way through ! Did you on Show's first broadcast (was that on Monday or Wednesday) have any ? TPATH's website only gives the list from show 48 (oct 11) downwards...
So I digged thanks to music sites and search engines and came up with something.
So I hope the spelling and all is correct. If anyone sees a mistake, pls drop me a line.
And pls pls all those who love the show write to buriedtreasure@xm.com or is it buriedtreasure@xmradio.com ?? to get the song titles/artist list back.

Can you listen online on AOL radio? I saw they played XM radio and was curious if you can get to the show through AOL
EpiphanyDH
11-01-2007, 08:57 AM
Yes you can Pettylicious. I think this only works within the United States.
I posted this earlier in this thread so here it is again. Try it:
You can only do this with the following browsers:
Internet Explorer
Netscape
Firefox
(You might also have to install an "add-on" that your browser will advise you about to have it work).
1). Go to www.aol.com (http://www.aol.com/)
That's it.

I really enjoyed listening to the show tonight. Lots of good tunes but right now I've got Oh No, Not My Baby by Maxine Brown stuck in my head, lol. I haven't heard this song in years.

Tom said in his comments the song was banned in some cities (more than 10'000 people :p) because of that. In the fifties these things were just not said aloud :077: By the way did you catch show 9 ?

the 50's censors wouldn't even show elvis. if their not dead already, they would be now by what's on tv. i guess they are just rolling (not rocking) in their graves.
