Via tompetty.com news: 09/12/07 - SUNDANCE CHANNEL TO AIR TELEVISION WORLD PREMIERE OF RUNNIN’ DOWN A DREAM
4-hour Opus To Premiere October 29th at 7:00pm
New York, September 12, 2007 – Sundance Channel will air the world television premiere of Peter Bogdanovich’s 4-hour documentary Runnin’ Down a Dream: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on October 29th at 7:00pm e/p. The announcement was made today by Laura Michalchyshyn, Executive Vice President and GM Programming and Creative Affairs. This follows the film’s world premiere in the special events section of the film at the New York Film Festival on October 14th, 2007.
Michalchyshyn said of the film “this deeply rich portrait of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers by film legend Peter Bogdanovich is a perfect fit for Sundance Channel viewers who are devoted fans of cinema and music. The Heartbreakers rise from humble beginnings to decades of popularity and international success makes for a great storytelling and who better to tell that story than Peter Bogdanovich.”
Comprehensive, revealing and epic in scope, this rare examination of three decades in the history and development of the legendary American rock and roll band from filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show) focuses on both the shadows and light of the band’s uniquely American success story. Incisive interviews, remarkable archival footage and plentiful concert footage tell the story of a band and its front man Tom Petty — described by Bogdanovich as “an American troubadour in the truest sense of the word” — who have earned 16 Grammy® nominations and sold more than 50 million recordings.
The film features in-depth interviews with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and the circle of musicians, friends and collaborators who came into the band's orbit over the years. Participants include Stevie Nicks, Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl, George Harrison, Jackson Browne, Roger McGuinn, Dave Stewart, Jeff Lynne, Rick Rubin, Jimmy Iovine, Johnny Depp, and others. In addition to tracking the Heartbreakers over their decades together, "Runnin' Down A Dream" also follows Tom Petty's solo adventures and his time as a Traveling Wilbury alongside George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, and Roy Orbison.
Encore airings of Runnin’ Down a Dream: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will air on Sundance Channel on Wednesday, October 31st at 3:00am and Saturday, November 3rd at 3:00pm.

HAHA! Caroline, I was on the phone with a Comcast rep within minutes of reading this post. That idiot didn't have a clue. I finally had to go through each channel, all bazillion of them and I found it myself. How is it possible that you work for a cable company and don't know the channels that are offered with the service. We were on the phone for almost half an hour. Plus we had a communication problem, he had a very thick accent and I could hardly understand a word he said.

Sharon, I don't know how Comcast stays in business. I heard they were recently voted to have the worst costomer service of any ISP nationwide (I have them for cable TV and cable internet), and my experience with them reinforces that distinction. Too bad there's not more competition.
Sorry for getting a little off-topic.

You know what's funny, Caroline? When Comcast went nuts installing digital phone service here in the Philly area, they were bringing out service guys from the Lancaster area to help because things were so backed up. That's you can't get any customer service out there, they're all working here!

LOL@ Nancy. That's another thing, I'm sick of every time I call them about a problem with my service they keep trying to push that damn new digital phone service down my throat.
Caroline, here is an example of a typical Comcast moment...I called them out three times to fix my cable service. Everytime one would come out he'd say the other worker didn't do it right. There was a problem with an outside cable. They even dug up my grass once to supposedly fix it. My internet service kept being interrupted. Anyway, after all this back and forth, these idiots have the audacity to send me a bill for something they were responsible for to begin with. Arrghhhh!!
The only good thing is that I made such a stink about it, they gave me some freebies for a year.
Okay, you may now resume your normal programming, lol. :)

^^ why the hell didn't I do that when we had all that trouble last year?? I'm sick of all that pushing for the digital phone too. And every time I call the phone co. they try to push their internet. Leave me alone!!

My Comcast moment(s): I was happy with my old, Mac-friendly ISP, but Comcast bought them out, so I became a Comcast customer by default. I had a couple problems during the switchover, so I called Comcast tech support. As soon as I mentioned I have a Mac, there was a long pause, then "Ooooooh. You have a Mac? Oh boy. Ummmmm. Hmmmm. Can you hold please?" Then someone else got on the line. I thought, finally, a competent Machead! Well, he was totally dumbfounded and even admitted to me he's not sure about Macs. So I made suggestions about where we might look in my computer settings. He just kept agreeing with me. Then I made more suggestions. I ended up fixing my own problem, with no help from Comcast tech support! This has happened more than once so I now realize I am on my own, and probably better off for it! Some tech support!!!

Apparently the decision has been made now to go straight to the TV with the Sundance Channel after the NY screening. No other cities will get to see it in theatres. Movie is too long.
I'll have to wait and hope it appears for sale on DVD.
TOM PETTY (http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/article/four-hour%20documentary%20costs%20petty%20a%20cinema%20 run_1043800#) has lost out on becoming a big screen documentary star in America - because a new film about his life and career is too long for cinemas. Moviemaker Peter Bogdanovich's movie, Runnin' Down A Dream: Tom Petty + The Heartbreakers, will premiere at the New York Film Festival next month (Oct07), but, at four hours long, it won't hit other theatres. Instead, the in-depth documentary, which features interviews with Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Johnny Depp and archival and concert footage, will go straight to TV (http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/article/four-hour%20documentary%20costs%20petty%20a%20cinema%20 run_1043800#). America's Sundance Channel will debut the documentary on 29 October (07).

That's cool. I'd much rather watch it in the comfort of my own home anyway. Emmie, I'm sure it will be out on DVD real soon.
I actually would like to have seen it air on PBS stations like Bob Dylan's documentary. It was in two parts. I wonder if they've considered doing that?
