I just heard an ad for the new Mudcrutch album on my local classic rock station, 99.7 WRFX, in Charlotte, NC. They have the album up on their website to listen to. Here's the link: http://www.wrfx.com/cc-common/mfeatures/mudcrutchSP/ (http://www.wrfx.com/cc-common/mfeatures/mudcrutchSP/)

Yahoo! I'll learn the songs by Saturday. Sounds like a great dance band! I told Crash to bring his dancin' shoes. We're going in tie dye and acting like the old hippies we are!!!!! Wish I hadn't shaved my legs last night!

Crash and I listened several times last night. He says "Shady Grove" was the song The Darlings (really The Dylans) played on an early version of the Andy Griffith show.

I love this recording - so great to get to listen to it at work today. Crystal River is lovely. My favorite from the beginning remains The Wrong Thing to Do - man, did this song rock live.

Great album. I love how "loose" Petty sounds on this. It's very casual and they aren't trying hard.

It's great to hear Campbell and Tench not so structured within the songs. No pressure to write hits, no formatting.

This has some of Petty's best storytelling too.

Wildflowers will always be the opus, but post 1994:

Songs like Swingin', Dreamville, Blue Sunday, Have, Love Will Travel, Nightdriver, Down South, Big Weekend, etc; those songs all paint a cool picture.

That kind of thing is all over this album.

Some great one liners on this.

Does anyone know if these are the songs he refers to at the end of Paul Zollo's bio from Fall 2005? I am just curious if Petty decided to put them into this side project or if this is a separate batch.

I don't expect anyone to know, but you have to ask to find out, right? Thanks.

God I wish I saw this before the concert last night.

Orphan of the Storm and Lover of the Bayou are my favorites, but Christ doesn't Crystal River remind you a bit of It's Good To Be King?

Not for me at all. I think this is one of the most beautiful pieces of music he has ever done. :045:

Yes, it does, but only somewhat.

Each has the meandering melody (in a good way) and are extended pieces.

The tempos are close and the personality of the songs are similar. All this considered, this one is more trippier and "bright". Different vocal delviery from Petty too.

I see what you are saying, but that's like saying Free Girl Now is like Amnerican Girl.

Not at all. I cannot stand It's Good To Be King, I will run to the potty when they play that song live. But...with Crystal River, you couldn't get me to move if you tried. :)

It's Good to Be King is a classic. Wow. Easily a top gem on Widlflowers.

Do you always need a 3:30 3 chord rock song?

Nope, didn't you see where I said I love Crystal River?

Sorry, I just can't stand IGTBK, never have, never will. Glad there is a skip button on my cd player when playing Wildflowers. :003:

Saw it. Just confused. Both are similar in structure and tempo. Both meander with a great melody.

No biggie, just interesting.

I don't think Crystal River sounds anything like IGTBK but it's probably my least favorite of the songs on the album. Give me Orphan of the Storm, June Apple, Queen of the Go-Go Girls and Bootleg Flyer anyday

We're going to try "The Wrong Thing to Do" at our show this Friday....I've almost got the words memorized :)

Shady Grove will have to wait for a few more practice sessions, although I've got Leadon's acoustic part pretty much down.

For you guitar players out there the secret is capo 3, DADGAD tuning. Man I love bluegrass.

Stunned at the lack of love for IGTBK. It's the centerpiece on Petty's best album, in my opinion.

^ it's not the album version, it's the live one. It was lonnnnng and some of us got a little tired of it. Mostly we just like to torture Ref about it though.
