To wingspan,
Neither did I until I got a booking there. Its over by Hillsdale, and the place really rocks. Some great people hang out there, and its a friendly place.

Darn. Too far of a drive for me, too. I'm in Mount Pleasant...

Hello fellow michiganders !! And yes Hillsdale is near Indy. Mt. Pleasant, I played at that college back in '77 !! It was at some party, but my memory escapes me what it was for. I remember sleeping in my station wagon after the gig when I tried to drive back home, and got to tired. My girlfriend and a girl friend of hers was with me and we all slept inside a Galaxie Ford Wagon, along with a bass amp and guitars and a small P.A. Aah those were the days !!

This gig went well too. We loaded all the equipment plus 3 band members inside my ford van. We had the PA system, 4 monitors, mic stands, drums, 4 amplifiers, keyboards, key. stand, lights, 8 guitars, various other accessories.
It took us almost 2 hours to get there. I could only go about 45 MPH.
The night went well, the Tom Petty song "yer So Bad" even had a few dancers. We did a real knock out version of "born to be wild". Plus we added "family tradition" & "long hair country boy" by requests that night.
They want us back so I have to call them this week and get some further bookings. We stopped at Mcdonalds for some burgers after the gig, seen 8 deer on the return trip. (4 in downtown Hillsdale eating grass in front of a gas station). We split the gas cost, and it took less than 10 gallons. The place was 65 miles each way. I got home and in bed at 4 am. ( I had been up the day before from 5 am friday morning to 3am Sat. morn ). I had to get up at 9 am Sunday so the lack of sleep really affected my energy level on Sunday !
When I finally got to bed Sunday night I couldn't fall to sleep and ended up sleeping from 1:30 am to 5:10 this morning. Right now I am very tired.
Our next gig is in 2 weeks, on May 10. But I am looking forward to going to bed tonight !!

We got another booking yesterday for this Friday in Toledo, Ohio !! If it goes well we are promised more gigs at this southside club !! So we will do the same set list as last week with a few additions and switch arounds. What was great is, they called us !!

Well we must be doing something right, we got an offer for a house gig.
We are not able to do both Fridays and Saturdays because of other bookings, so we got the rest of the Fridays for this month. The crowd really liked "yer so bad" and several people said that I sounded like Tom Petty !! Now I have to learn some more Tom Petty songs...I'm thinking "walls" and "listen to her heart" and 2 or 3 other ones.

No, wingspan, its at a little club/bar on the southside of Toledo.
I have to call Jonesville on May 14 for more bookings. I've spoken with the man there and he wants us back, but has a trustee meeting first. So far, every place we have played wants us back, which is like a first for me. This is really a bunch of nice guys that enjoy playing music we like. I want to work in more of Tom Petty, and the Beatles...Guess Who......just a bunch of rock n roll like that. I'm also hoping to do some originals with these guys too.
So what started as thinking we might find work once a month has turned into 7 nights for this month alone !!
Thanks for your comments Nylle !

Well we've settled in to this club for the rest of the Fridays of this month !! Last week twice as many people showed up !! Sat. gig was good too. This week we play again on Fri..and then Sat we play another small club, that is a little more rock than country. We are going to open with You really got me by the kinks, and then we are going to do 2 CCR songs each set !! I hope they like CCR !!

Wingspan91089

What I want to do this week is whoever's song we start the set with, we end the set with another of their song (ie. start with Green River and end with Born on the Bayou ), just to see if anyone in the crowd notices. Thats always fun to do.

Dynabeat Tim
05-16-2008, 07:12 AM
We added in to our sets one of my favorite cover songs of Rod Stewart's " I'd Rather Go Blind ". Also we've added in this week "Lodi" and "Suzy Q" "Born on the Bayou" "Dizzy Miss Lizzie" "All Along the Watchtower" "Taking Care Of Business" about 12 different songs than last Friday.

The place was packed last night and so we were offered the "house" gig !! We are going to be there till mid June now, both Friday and Saturday nights. She told us the band that had been playing Sat. was really bad so she let them go.
I'm getting alot of requests for TP so I will be doing "walls" for sure, and then some of their singles. I plan on doing some CD cuts too. Any suggestions ?

tim, are you doing "who'll stop the rain" by CCR too? we recorded it recently, but still have a little more mixing to do on that 1, maybe a touch more delay or echo on the lead vocal, then some EQ.

Sounds like things are going well Tim - congrats. I wasn't in MtP in '77, but can definitely remember some good times at various frat parties and bars in the early 80s. Keep us posted on where gigs are at - you never know!

Dynabeat Tim
05-19-2008, 06:35 AM
Nurk....I have done that song in the past, and will probably be doing it again. I seen your earlier post and haven't had time to check out the song to see if there are 2 versions. I have it on the LP's greatest hits and Cosmo's factory. I also have it on the CD box set. I just got a Discoveries Magazine from 1988 with a huge article on John F. and CCR, with a great interview with Cosmo where he talks about each song that the band recorded. Really interesting. How did you do your recording ? Did you record live ? the whole band ? What kind of recording equipment ?
To jawallac...when I played at the college it was some kind of a event that the college itself was doing so it was pretty well organized. My group will be in Toledo through June 6, and then on the 7th we are at the Ypsilanti Eagles club, and the public is invited.....so who knows, maybe someone reading this will show up.

05-22-2008, 06:29 AM
We've added for this Friday night "pretty woman" "mama Tried" 'walkin' the dog" "southern streamline" "welcome to my world" "secret agent man" "red hot"
"boppin' the blues" "come go with me" "do wah diddy" "lodi" "lets work together" "I'm so lonesome I could cry" "lawdy miss clawdy".......this is so much fun !!

Anyway this week we've added "the apartment song" by TP, "Down In the Boondocks" Billy Joe Royal ( our guitarist played with him back in the '90's),

Tonight is the first night I just don't feel like entertaining, bu the show must go on. Anyway tonight we have an old friend, Michael sitting in with us on keyboards and I will be playing bass all night. Our regular guy needed to take the next 2 weeks off. So tonight we will be doing more keyboard oriented songs. We will be doing more Beatles and Stones than usual, as Mike knows alot of these tunes.

Dynabeat Tim
06-23-2008, 10:47 AM
Last Friday went well. I'm running an advert for a bass player/harmony singer to fill in for our regular guy. Our Friday gig was extended through July !!

Dynabeat Tim
06-27-2008, 05:22 PM
Tonight we have a friend sitting in on bass guitar. Our other member has a wedding to attend. Anyway we are doing some old country songs from the '70's plus some Dion numbers ( wanderer and ruby baby) !! Hot and muggy here though, so I'm not sure what the crowd will be like. Also doing some Carl Perkins and Elvis songs, along with CCR !!

Dynabeat Tim
07-01-2008, 12:59 PM
Well last Friday went very well. We had more dancers and the crowd was bigger than ever before. Now the next Friday our regular guy is back. It was hot and muggy out and I didn't think people would be in the mood, but they surprised me and dance from the first number to the last !! Go figure.

Dynabeat Tim
07-04-2008, 03:07 PM
Tonight, the 4th of July, we will be doing our salute to Carl Perkins, plus we've added the apt song, and yer so bad, back into the set. Also doing a byrds medley.
Hopefully it will be busy and people will feel like partying, I know I do.

Well we should've played sat., there were not alot of people although we got extended through august. Anyway we had a replacement set in, his name is tom, and he is going to play with us tommorrow night. He knows most of the tunes that we are going to play. I met him through an advert I ran in the lcoal paper. Our regular guy had been in 2 bands, but now he has quit the other one cause he says we are the better of the 2. (I could've told him that LOL ). We are going to open and close each set with a CCR tune this Friday.

Dynabeat Tim
07-14-2008, 11:20 AM
Friday was the busiest ever !! The fill-in guy played great, and if we ever need someone we will call him first. Our regular guy ( Jim ) comes back this week .
Now we play this Friday than we are on 2 weeks vacation. Our gtr player is going whitewater rafting, and I've got plans too. Then we go back the 2nd wk of August every Friday, plus we have 3 of the Saturdays booked, and a Sunday. So next month will be the busiest yet. This is the most amazing group that I have ever been in. For the first time everyone likes each other. Makes it so nice.

Dynabeat Tim
07-23-2008, 12:49 PM
Well all went well last week. We have worked out "first cut is the deepest" into a Dylan type song, and we did alot of R & B. ( midnight hour, Hold on I'm coming, etc.) last Friday. Next we are working "have I the right" by the honeycombs !! Anyway we are on a 2 week holiday, and return to gigging on August 8. We are booked for 8 dates in August, and have bookings into Oct. Yippee !!

Dynabeat Tim
08-08-2008, 02:34 PM
Tonight we return after a 2 week vacation. We've added "No Particular Place To Go ", " Good Rockin' Tonight" and "the Way I walk". Songs by Chuck Berry, Elvis, and jack Scott !! I'm working on "I won't back down"..we plan on playing that when we play the annual cancer cure walk in Sept. Also we are still working on "have I the right" and 1,2,3 by Len Barry.

Dynabeat Tim
09-07-2008, 12:10 AM
I've been so busy since taking a vacation I haven't been able to post some of the tunes we've been doing. We just did a pvt party that had a theme of the 50's so we played Elvis, chuck berry, little richard, fats domino, etc all night long.
We are working on "don't stop' by the stones from 40 licks, and a song by the grateful dead called "bertha". Also we've added several buddy holly tunes. and a dylan tune ( if not for you ) george harrison's version. We work 7 times this month out of a 8 possible dates. ( we can only work fri and sat because of our day jobs !! )
whew !! ( i love it !! )
