Well I finally made it home from the bay area a while ago. Wow! What a show and what a night! I have to tell you all I had no intention of going to this show until Lizzygirl and Gloria (Tompettyisking) double teamed me and talked me into going. Well girls, I want to thank both of you SO much! I'm so glad I didn't miss this show. It was aboslutely incredible.

I'll start by saying...YES! I drove to the bay by myself, found the venue (it's been years since I was there last) and actually found a great parking spot right across the street from the venue. It was like the concert gods were shining down on me. :003:
I stood in line with the nicest couple. She post at the officals as I think she said, Petty4me. But I'm not absolute about that. Anyway, they were so sweet.

The show started pretty much on time. As far as the songs go since the setlist doesn't really change too much I'll just tell you this, the crowd is really showing their love for this music. The songs that seem to be getting a lot of love are Six Days On The Road ( My new favorite today), The Wrong Thing To Do, Lover of The Bayou and Scare Easy. Crystal River is a long jam that I thought the crowd really got into, but you know how those long jams can go sometimes. I personally loved it but then I love it anytime I get to see Mike Campbell stretch out on those guitar solo's. I also loved June Apple for the same reason. Mike and Tom Leadon play together. I love watching that. It's a thrill for me. The song that caught me off guard because it really rocks live was Topanga Cowgirl. But if I was forced to choose one song that the fans seemed to receive the best I honestly couldn't tell you based on this crowd. They loved everything this band dished out.Tom even said San Francisco audiences are some of the best music listeners. I guess he was trying to say we seem to be very open minded when it comes to music.

The guys were all smiles and they look like they're having a hellava good time! Benmont is just cutting up. He's having a blast with this and it shows all over his face and in his attitude. Another thing that's taking me by surprise is how well the fans have taken to Tom Leadon and Randall Marsh. It's really sweet. I am SO impressed with Tom's guitar skills. It's a pleasure to watch him play. He's really enjoying himself. And Randall Marsh is no slouch on those drums. Poor drummer's they always seem to get the short end of the stick sitting way back there. Then there's Mr. Petty on bass. Whoa! I was not ready for this. He blew me away.

I loved hearing Tom Leadon talk about the old Mudcrutch days and he thanked Tom profusely for this whole experience. He said a big part of it was that he gets to hang around Tom Petty again. He said to the audience, "I can't tell you how cool that is". It was funny because somebody yelled out, "I want to hang out with Tom Petty", LOL!

Now for a little side info. First of all we had the crowd crashers. You know, those people who as the evening gets on they decide all of a sudden they're just going to push their way up front. Ugh! These people get on my last nerve! Me and another girl standing next to me decided, it ain't happening here. And with both of us being big girls, I don't think too many wanted to try. And then, there was smoking in the venue, and lots of it. People were just lighting up their joints and cigarettes all over the place, even Tom smoked up on stage, lol. But heaven forbid you pull out a camera or video. Security would come running right over, lol.

I have to say though. I was standing with some very nice people. One guy standing by me was joking and said to me after the show. You're like the cool girl in high school, will you marry me? LMAOO! I thought that was too funny, especially to anyone who knows me.

I loved seeing my Lizzygirl and Glo! Lizzy, thank you for the ticket. It's a night I'll never forget. Glo, thanks for leading me back to the freeway. As always, it was great to see you. Your friend Melanie is a sweetheart. Zombie, it was such a pleasure to hang with you and I'll see you Saturday. Gatorlily, it was so good to see you right there at the end the show. It's been too long.

Speaking of long, sorry about this but I'm tired and the thoughts just keep coming. I can't wait for Saturday to get here.

To Tom P., Mike, Benmont, Randall and Tom L., thank you guys so much for an incredible night of Muddy music!

Now thats a review !! Its nice to hear from a "fan" and not someone who is on duty. Did Tom seem comfortable on bass ? Or was he looking at his hand/fingers ? Did it seem he could sing and play bass runs with ease ? I know some people always ask me that, and I don;t really think about it cause I've done it for so many years, but I was wondering if Tom had to get used to it again, since its been so long since he's had to do it live.

I'm so glad you had a great time Sharon! Thanks for your review. :D

I was sad to see that Tom couldn't wait to have a cigarette. The show only went on for like an hour and a half. :(

Sharon, it was so great to see you again. I think it's been 4 years. Did you get a poster? They are pretty cool.

The band played great, they all looked like they were having so much fun, especially Tom Leadon. Petty looked very comfortable on bass and it didn't seem like he had to look at his fingers much at all. I can't remember setlists to save my life so I won't try to figure out what was different between the two nights.

I had a blast but there were a few people in the crowd that irritated the heck out of me. We had a one drunk guy who couldn't stand up by the second song (fortunately he was dragged off the floor and people around him cheered) and then I had two couples who talked during most of the songs (one chick actually had her back to the band half the time). I wanted to ask her if she even knew what band she was seeing. But the vast majority of the crowd was just totally digging the music. Awesome night.

Just to add two bits to Sharon's stellar review:

1. I was on the Leadon side of the stage both nights which gave me a view to the back of the stage. Tom Petty and his wife entered the Fillmore about 8:05, ducking in so as to be unseen. The rest of the band was already upstairs hanging out. At 8:20 they all hit the stage. I took this as a sign of how relaxed he is with this band that he could glide in minutes before showtime. Also, Tom's wife, (Dana, I believe) joined us to dance the encores (epecially Off The Hook). She does not seem to take herself too seriosly either. How refreshing!

2. Two times in the show Benmont had "technical difficulites" with an earpiece of some sort. The first time was before "This Is A Good Street," but he insisted that the song go on. The next time was later in the show on a song the was to start. Both times he angrily threw the device away, promting Mike to grin for minutes about the brazen intensity of the pianist. Onstage, nothing disturbs Mike, but many things amuse him.

p.s. Sharon is spot on about the attitude of the crowd crashers. Tom made a point to thank those who had waited in line all day. Drunk, dumb, and late is enough trouble in a crowd- no need to add pushy to the mix.

^ Hey Lillian! It was such a pleasant surprise to see you pop up there at the end last night. :)

I agree with You, TP looked pretty comfortable on bass. I think what was cracking me up was the shuffling around on stage. At TPATH shows Tom knows his spot but he seemed like he was uncertain about where he should be standing at times.

OMG! Those posters are SO cool! Can you believe by the time ZZ and I came out they were out of them. But my girl Lizzy came through and gave me one. She's the best! I owe her big time for so much. Those posters are going to be so rare. That sweet couple I met ended up paying some street person $15 for one, actually they were probably lucky. I was going to say I'm sure they'll be on Ebay. I just went over there and here it is....

Welcome to the farm, Fallen Angel. LOL! You must have been standing near me when because dumb, drunk and late came running up next to me. Towards the end of the show he comes stumbling up between me and the girl next to me, dancing AND smoking! I was too pissed. I just pushed him to the side. A couple came up to me after the show and complimented me and the other girl on our tactics for keeping people out. That one woman that thought she was going to just dance her way in front of us, I was like no way, you go behind me.

And thanks to you now I know what that was that Benmont threw angrily. He seemed after that though, lol.

I am the one who yelled "I want to hang out with TOM". You heard it loud and clear cuz I was right in front of you!

That show was off the hook! The 2nd song in the encore was "Off the Hook" which is how that whole night was! I am still smiling.

Great review Sharon, it was so awesome to see you and Liz and all the others there. On my way home I was next to their tour bus, awwwwww, if only I had the nerve to bump into it!

For all of you out there getting to the upcoming shows you are in for a treat!

THANKS to MUDCRUTCH FOR BRINGING IT TO THE FILLMORE LAST NIGHT!!!

Doesn't that poster just fit the name Mudcrutch? LOL!

Yes Glo, it was you that yelled it out. I thought I'd let you tell on yourself, HAHAHA!

That's right, that song "Off The Hook". I forgot about that one. Yep, that pretty much described the night. Loved hangin' with you! :003:

Linda, somehow I knew you'd be up waiting for me. Thanks Mom! lol.

I love you too Nancy. I wish you could see one of these shows. But I've got a deep down feeling that this is not the last we'll see of Mudcrutch.

Great review! I wish I could write things like that. I guess that's why I take videos.. those are my reviews. It was so nice to see you last night Sharon, along with everyone else. Luckily I was able to get a poster the night before. I went to the post office today and mailed it to myself b/c I knew it wouldn't make the flight.

Sharon, it was so nice meeting you, Zombie, Gloria, Lizzy and everyone else Thurs. Our wait in line was so much better with the great company! Man what an amazing night! We sat right in front of Benmonts piano which meant I couldn't hardly see him because I'm 5' nothing but my husband had a good view and witnessed the second time his earpiece quit working and he slammed it on the top of his piano then contiued ripping the rest of it off and threw it behind him and kept on playing like a pro. Also before the show even started we spotted Mike and Randal sitting in the balcony closest to the stage and like a star struck idiot I smiled and waved. I got a nice smile and wave back from Randal. We also had our share of stage crashers but luckily most of the people around us were so nice and made the night that much more enjoyable. I was in awe of the whole night. The music was amazing! I loved Oh Maria, Topanga Cowgirl, Crystal River, The Wrong Thing To Do, and basicly everything they played. I have to say it is one of my all time favorite shows that I have been to! The only downside was the fact that I had to buy my poster from some guy on the street because they ran out when we got out the door but seeing what the one on ebay sold for I think I got a pretty good deal. I was also able to sneek a few pictures at the end of the night when the lights came up and the boys waved goodnight once I get them developed and if they turn out I will try to post them here and if I can't figure it out here I will post on the TPATH message board. Well all I can say is anyone going to one of the shows you will not be disapointed! Can't wait to see them at the Fillmore again and maybe they could squeeze in a run at the Greek also (hint, hint). Thanks so much for a unforgettable night guys!

^ Hey Fan4petty, it's so good to see you here at the farm. :)
That was so much fun hangin' in line with you and your hubby in line. Was that show amazing or what? I'm so glad I ran into you two again after the show. I was looking for you. I was also happy that you guys were able to get a poster. Hey, that was a bargain. You should check out ebay, lol. I'm sure we'll meet up again real soon. We had a blast last night at the SB show. And tonight, Ventura! Woooohoooooooo!!!

Don't be a stranger to these parts. ;)
