Shady Grove
AM..............G
Shady Grove, my little girl
AM
Shady Grove I say
C.................G
Shady Grove, my little girl
....AM..........G..AM
I'm bound to go away

AM....................G
Cheeks as red a a blooming rose
......AM
And eyes are the prettiest brown
C.....................G
She's the darling of my heart
AM.........G......AM
Sweetest little girl in town

(chorus)
(break)

I wish I had a big fine horse
And corn to feed him on
And Shady Grove to stay at home
And feed him while I'm gone

(chorus)
(break)

Went to see my Shady Grove
She was standing in the door
Her shoes and stockin's in her hand
And her little bare feet on the floor

(chorus)
(break)

When I was a little boy
I wanted a Barlow knife
And now I want little Shady Grove
To say she'll be my wife

(chorus)

A kiss form pretty little Shady Grove
Is sweet as brandy wine
And ther ain't no girl in this old world
That's prettier than mine

(chorus)
(break)

No, but I knew the melody with different lyrics by Fareport Convention. But the story there is a little too sad......the King killed his Queen because she had a lover......so far as I remember.....

"Shady Grove"

This is an old English ballad that found its way to rural Appalachia. It
was one of many such songs that were discovered by "song catchers"
who went into remote parts of the Southern United States to collect folk lore
and music. Many of these songs have changed very little in over three
hundred years. This version uses urban drums to give it a more
contemporary beat. I like to call the syntheses - "Pho-Kop." roger mcguinn
