My prayers go out to all our Atlanta farmers and their families (that means the pets, too!) during this most difficult time.

Love, Pankie

Wow, I didn't know about this. Thanks for posting it, Pankie.

My brother lives in Atlanta, but way north, so I'm sure he's fine. I'll have to call him now.

What a terrible mess that was. I'd have freaked at the Georgia Dome with pieces of the roof falling in. Yikes! I hope everyone is safe.

It looked like a warzone didn't it Ladywiz! ~ or maybe General Sherman made another loop thru! I'm 20 minutes from downtown and was at The Marietta Diner when it hit downtown. As busy as downtown usually is, I'm just glad it didn't hit on a weekday when those buildings were full of people!

That's so funny that you would mention Sherman, because I had been referring to the tornado as 'little Sherman!' Our daughter was driving down Northside Drive heading downtown when she called us to tell us it was hailing and her car was "popping up and down" from the high wind. We told her to pull over so the storm would pass on by. She didn't want to pull over because it was dark, but a big gust of wind made her car slew sideways and she decided "that's it" and pulled over for about five minutes around 1oth Street.

When the hail and wind let up she started on toward downtown and began saying, "Oh, my God" over and over almost like she was chanting. I said, "What do you see? Tell me what you are seeing." She said "I am by Philips Arena, the wall is down on the parking decks...there are trees down everywhere...glass all over the street...oh, there's a pink chair in the road!

I realized there had been a tornado, though the weather service hadn't issued a warning yet. In fact the warning wouldn't come until AFTER the tornado! And we have the video to prove it, because we were tivo-ing a program we were watching when her call came in.

Trying to calm her down and create a diversion I told her to get some shots with her camera phone and she did. That gave her a focus and helped push back the shock.

She was driving through this devastation--she was there before the first responders! This means if she hadn't pulled over she would have been right in the middle of the mess at CNN Center and the Georgia Dome!!! She missed being in the middle of it all by five minutes.

Thank God I raised her to be a weather-wizard, too. She knew that hail meant there was a good chance a tornado was around! So she called for info and instructions! Finally she reached her loft apt. building. It was fine.

Not so the lofts across Oakland Cemetary from her complex...that was the Cotton Mill Lofts that I am sure y'all have seen on tv. And the MARTA station on the other side of her apt. was hit, too. So she was DOUBLE LUCKY with this storm!

More inclement weather came Saturday. We had a tornado warning here, it seemed the storm was marching east down Bankhead Highway when it suddenly swerved south a bit. When I looked west and saw the dark, swirling clouds moving south I knew we would be safe, so we went outside and we could hear the tornado passing by. We could actually hear the winds roaring, rotating.

That storm dropped a lot of big hail, but there were no reports of that tornado actually touching ground. We went down close to I-20, on a big hill that faces east and I took a bunch of photos of the storm moving into downtown.

What a weekend! Especially for a weather-freak like me! I was never afraid for myself, but the incident with our daughter sure got my attention!

It could be a really stormy spring here. I hope folks around ATL realize now that tornadoes go where they please...being downtown isn't a safe haven.

And tornadoes occur all over the world, too. So keep your eyes to the skies!

Now I must give kudos to our Georgia Bulldogs basketball team, who were in the playoffs. Because of the tornado and the damage it did to the Georgia Dome they had to play three games in two days. And they won them all! Worst to first! HOW 'BOUT THEM DOGS?!

I've been watching the news a lot to see the damage in Georgia. It is absolutely amazing that no one was killed in Atlanta's EF 2 tornado. In west Georgia two people were killed in an EF 3 tornado there. Some of my storm pix were shown on air on CBS 46 here along with shots our daughter took moments after the storm.

 The kid was way to close to the tornado, Wiz! Jeepers. I sure am glad she's okay.

As far west as we are, we just got a lot of wind & stuff gettin' blown around. No damage, thank the good Lord. Kinda creepy having a tornado go thru downtown, the first time in recorded history the radio guys were saying.

Yeah, it freaked her out alright! I wondered how you were faring out on the AL/GA line...seems that's the fast track for storms around here.
