Benmont Tench appears in the latest issue (http://www.performingsongwriter.com/pages/shop/issues_current.cfm) Peforming Songwriter magazine. (#104)
http://www.mudcrutch.com/photos/data/527/performing_songwriter_benmont.jpg
On sale at newsstands and the magazines website (http://www.performingsongwriter.com/index.cfm) now, the article features a three-page interview in the "Keyboard" section with Benmont Tench about his years playing with Tom Petty, his session work and his own songwriting.
So check it out. Another article (http://www.performingsongwriter.com/pages/home/showtime.cfm) in the same issue on album covers seems pretty cool too.

The interview with Benmont is just fantastic! In the album cover art article, designer Jeri McManus Heiden is interviewed. The little introduction before the interview says "Her current projects include the upcoming Eagles album and a Tom Petty anthology." Wonder what this is? Do they mean the documentary or something else?

^ I think it may be the live album that Mike Campbell is working on. At least I hope it is. Thanks for the heads up, KW 1978.

Yeah it could be the live album. With all the documentary stuff going on, I'd temporarily forgotten about that. But I'm certainly looking forward to that as well. If Mike's working putting it together, we know it's going to be good!

Wow, I looked and looked for the article online and couldn't find it. Thanks!
I ordered a copy from the website and it's $8. Kind of steep, but worth it to me.

Wow, that's really nice! Lizzie, it's a PDF file you can download right on the front page. Just look for Benmont's picture.
How nice of them! I can print it right out and put it in my interview book.

I love that interview!! Benmont is so honest and funny. I love how he speaks about rock 'n' roll musicians going on tour and getting into a rut playing the same old songs! Tom take note!
I also love how he speaks about Ron and Steve. :003:
Benmont is truly a class act.

What a great interview! It's not very often that you get to hear Benmont's perspective on things. I had to laugh at him saying he's trying to play better. Surely you jest Benmont, lol.
Thanks for posting the link Ref! :003:

I love how he said he didn't want to be found out. Sometimes I feel that way at work.
So I guess everyone saw that part about Largo. I guess that's a really special thing they've got going on there.

I really enjoyed this article and it's so nice to hear he still likes being a Heartbreaker and gets excited about working on new songs with Tom. I just can't believe he has an inferiority complex. The man is brilliant!

I think that's one of the things I like best about Ben - with as big of a rep as he's got, he could call his own shots and probably be a real puke, but instead he's just interested in learning from everyone else and growing in his craft; he's just a regular, good guy.
{PS: Lizzie - 8 dollars? Seriously? Geez, I only paid $4.95 at Borders...}

I love those live bootlegs from the 80's and early 90's because Ben used to have these long, long, piano solo/interludes during the show ("The Benmont Boogie", etc.)....that doesn't happen too much anymore it seems. Still, though, his playing is impeccable.

He played a long solo on Melinda during the 2005 tour. I love it when he does that! That was cool!
Welcome to the Farm Eddie! :006:
