Depends on who it is, but I would probably attempt to either lose them or confront them.

Yes and it depends on where it is....if it is in a crowd you could lose them.......

I'd try to lose them somehow, stopping in a store or other crowded place.

Be scared to death and try to find a cop.

I actually had this happen to me once when I was a much younger walking home after dark. I really thought this guy was following me. Turns out he wasn't but he scared the shit out of me. I just formulated a plan in my head of what I was going to do if he attacked me. I'd made up my mind he was going to have a fight on his hands. Even today I'm always working on my strategy in certain situations, like when I'm walking out of a store late at night. The best thing you can do for yourself is get a plan real quick and don't panic. Like that night, I was scared but I stayed calm so I could think.

It's been a long time, but this has happened a couple of times. I'd try to lose them first, but would confront them if need be.

I had this happen once too. I was walking home from a friend's house and a car was following me. I ducked into the nearby 7-11 hoping they would go away, but they didn't. I remembered there was a woman I had met once who lived a block down the street, so I left the 7-11, thinking if they continued to follow me, I could always run to her house.
About a minute after I started walking down the street a car pulled up behind me and asked if I wanted a ride. I ignored him and kept walking. He said, "Are you sure?" in a way that made me turn around. It was someone who had been in the store and had noticed that I was being followed. I took the chance and accepted the ride.
That is why I selected talking to a stranger. Thank you stranger, whoever you are!

I would confront them and demand to know why they were following me.

I would wonder why. If it was a threatening situation, I'd probably seek help from law enforcement.
I was thinking first of being followed in the car, but the way people answered, I'm thinking now on foot. I would pull out my cell phone and dial 911 if I felt threatened. If I didn't feel threatened and were in a crowd, I'd confront. I might open up a can of verbal whoop-ass on how the situation made me feel. This would be in the mode of throwing the person off an intended attack.

On foot, I would go to a place with plenty of people around. In a car, if I was freaked enough, I would go to a police or fire station.

Speaking of going someplace where plenty of people were around....when we were coming down the hill in a sea of people after the Hollywood Bowl show last year and I got separated from everyone, I hauled ass back to the Magic Castle! I was a little freaked that I saw no one I knew, especially when I got to the park where that odd lady had been earlier.

Well, first off, don't be walking by yourself in an isolated area. I made that mistake when I was thirteen. A guy came up to me, and said I shouldn't be walking around here (down by the train tracks by my house) by myself. I said thanks, and walked away. I should have run for the hills, but I was naive . . . I usually trust public trails in the daytime, and now I'm usually on my bike. I don't see myself confronting anyone, I would just go into a public place and call somebody I know. I do know that if someone attacked me now, after what happened to me then, and something my late mother had gone through years before that I didn't find out about till much later, I'd probably fight to the death. I'd try to make them pay for what my mother and I have gone through, and every wrong that was ever done to me. Some things in my life are so screwed up from that incident. Because I was so young, it completely changed who I was. I think I'd be a completely different person if that hadn't happened to me.
I was followed in my car once, coming home from a late night food shopping trip. I was trying not to be paranoid, but when I turned down my street, they turned, too. I ended up doing circles within the 6 block radius where I live, then finally got back to my street, turned off my headlights, and shot up my driveway, the end of which is hidden from the street. I either lost them somewhere, or they realized that I knew that they were following me. It was really freaky.

If I was driving I would drive to the police station, assuming I know where that is. If I was walking, I'd duck into whatever business was close by, tell an employee I was being followed and to please call law enforcement.
