The site has been off line more than normal... I will be moving servers if it continues much longer. also trust me -- if the site goes down it will be back up as soon as possible.
however, when the site is up it is pretty fast:

Hey the site may be slow but at least the people who post here are not! Unlike some other locations out there on that internet thingy... :003:

^ Ha! Very true, Normandi! Today it seems to be extra slow for me. Maybe
b/c it's a special day and there's more traffic than usual.....

Yes, its been slow. But the most unnerving thing was when I tried to post a reply yesterday and was told I "need to be logged in to perform that action" and I WAS logged in! It never would take that post, so I logged out and back in and everything was fine.

^ Me too. I even installed Safari to see if that would help...only a smidge.

This can't just be me. Is ANYone else having problems? Ryan, it is usually when I click on Go button for Forum Jump or going between threads. Sometimes it also hangs when I hit the 'post' button. I even get the "Safari can't open the page" message sometimes. Help!

Everything is running normally.. can you test from another internet connection (work or something) and see if it is any better?
Home it is fast for me, work it is fast for me, even on my iPhone it works fine..

04-03-2008, 09:53 AM
Seems it is the browser. Iīve tried it with firefox right now and sides go faster..... But I donīt really like firefox. T-online-browser works better for me on other forums and my e-mails, ect......
I will changeing to t-online again now. (Why canīt it work with that as good as on the old farm?.....Sigh)

Are any of you on dialup?
Wildflower
04-03-2008, 10:41 AM
Oh what a luxury to browse so fast! Anyway - I have to change the browser, I like to go into my mails.
What is dialup? Canīt find that word in my dictionary.
nurktwin
04-03-2008, 10:45 AM
dial up is a telephone line 56K speed. faster connections are DSL and cable.
Wildflower
04-03-2008, 10:47 AM
Back on T-online-browser.......(some sides go fast, some sides go slow.......:rolleyes::rolleyes:)

test your download and upload speeds at the link below. pick a pyramid near you and wait a minute for the test to run and give you your results.

ryan, after you run the test, there is a box for you to click and add the speed test to your site. maybe you should put the test on the farm home page so the farmers can test anytime they want.

Your connection speed is only part of the big picture. You are connecting to the farm on a server in the US and going through NUMEROUS other hopping points.
try this:
http://network-tools.com/default.asp?prog=ping&host=mudcrutch.com
look at the text results at the bottom. my average is in the low 20s.

This is an older machine, though it still works fairly well for me and my simple purposes. lol Sometimes it just needs a little hand holding. I unplugged my modem and left it that way all day and that already has helped a little. I am going to do a few more tricks on it this evening and see if that helps even more. I'd like nothing more than a new machine, but I have an expensive habit of gallivanting to the west coast a LOT! LOLOL

your connection to this site seems fine..
hit 'control-alt-delete'
and post how many processes you have running..
Wildflower
04-03-2008, 05:37 PM
I have 39 processes running
KansasPettyFan
04-03-2008, 05:56 PM
46 for me
Mudcrutch
04-03-2008, 05:58 PM
a bit high for both of you. :)
meaning that your computer might be slowed down by a bunch of extra stuff running in the background.
a decently running system will have the number of processes in the low 20s
Magnolia

^ I just did that and it said 55 processes!? wtf? I have no idea what that means
or how to fix it!

I ran CCleaner and it seems to have helped. I just zipped around the Farm quickly even though it took me two tries to get in. Safari can't open the page message. I might call India to see if I can improve it some more, just not in the mood lately to deal with them. lol

My daughter says, as far as she understands it it only cleans things you can also clean manuel, like cookie and internetfiles. And sometimes you donīt maybe want all cookie to be delated, or so. And she doesnīt think that it has something to do with the processes running in the background.
