This is awesome, but I'm a little upset they've only given us a week. I'm also not sure I like the idea of all tickets going on sale at once. Wish they'd say the price of the dream tickets too. But, This is still good news!!!

I know, Marion. Within the first two rows would probably be more dream-like for most of us (especially us shorter fans!). But I guess it will depend on the cost of these special packages. I didn't see a price anywhere...is it listed?

One advantage of the package is that you order it and be done with it...no presale Ticketmaster craziness. I've been obsessed in the past and the whole ticket thing would get my blood pressure soaring. I'll need to figure out a game plan.

Thoughts on ^that -

Same guarantee for seats as last time, and for the most part people ended up within first 5 rows.

If packages do not sell at presale - do they release the packages to public or seats?

Does this count within the limit 8 tickets for the tour?

Can we buy multiple packages for multiple shows?

hmmmmmmmmmmmm :)

Geez, I just rescheduled a meeting on the 30th. I feel my anxiety level rising just thinking about Ticketmaster. It's going to be a long week. I think I'll do Selma (San Antonio), Dallas and Houston. I would really like to go to the Gorge and Billy & I will be coming back from Alaska that weekend. I don't know if he will do four shows.

I will be in the middle of a two day long workshop on the 30th, but I am just going to tell the guy leading it that I need to take about an hour that day.

Fire me! It's TPATH!!

It looks like only the 3 CA dates for us this year. Maybe we'll add Denver if it is at Red Rocks. Too much work travel coming up to make commitments to travel for shows.

But I'm still happy :020:

Do you recall what the price was for the last tour for the Dream Package? Damn, I've been waiting 30 years to finally see the guy in my hometown - I probably shouldn't care, but Bon Jovi's recent similar package was freakin' $600!

01-24-2008, 01:25 PM
anyone think they will bump up the prices of the special packages this year? I have a huge sinking feeling in my gut they won't be $200. The price of HCC membership went up AND you get the massive book with the package......I guess I'll be working a LOT more hours! LOL! :)

nurktwin
01-24-2008, 01:45 PM
here's how it works: you are allowed 8 tix for the whole tour, so if you go by yourself, you can get to 8 shows. if you have a party of 4 people going, you can only go to 2 shows because that makes 8 tix. as far as the seating, i used the special packages on all the 2006 shows i went to, they were $200 each. tix are at will-call and always get there the last minute after everyone else is in the venue. i ended up in 2nd row for 1 show, 5th row for another, but every other show i was in front row between mike and tom. if you are going to travel to the gorge for the 1st time, make plans early, i think it was about a 5 hour drive from seattle and it's in the middle of nowhere. the closest place to stay besides the camp ground is moses lake, about a 30 minute drive east of the gorge. it's a small place with a few motels and 1 hotel that i stayed at. so book early. if you don't want to drive from seattle, you can get a flight on alaska air to moses lake, but you'll need a car to get to the venue. the gorge is a great place to see a show, but it's sooo far out of the way. i think i'd rather see them at key area in downtown seattle, where you can see the sites and pick from ton's of restaurants to eat at. and they have a rock museum too.

nurktwin
01-24-2008, 02:09 PM
when you think of the 2006 tour prices, about $75, the special packages weren't that far out of line for $200. you got a great seat, special laminated tix and a $100 gift certificate to the tpath store. so take away the $100 certificate that you shop with and you are down to $100 for the ticket, only $25 more than going through all the headaches with ticketbastard, and you got a special ticket, good seat and peace of mind. i should retract that "peace of mind", i started to worry at most shows when my ticket wasn't there at will-call for most shows until the last minute. they did get there before the opening acts, but it's kind of scary standing alone in the dark (2 nights in a row at the greek) after all your friends are already in the show and wondering if i'd ever get in. overall, it worked and i'll probably do it again this year.

I know I live in the middle of nowhere, and I have to admit that I am a little disappointed that thereīs still no European Tour and that I donīt have any idea how I will do this but hey, I will see them this year, no matter where and by hook or by crook!!! :045: :007: :081::041::081: :050: :023: I will be there.

Ditto! Let's talk. We'll want to meet up before the shows, at the very least. Do you know that venue in Selma? I didn't even know they had anything out there.

I'll try to do at least one trip. Other shows that look good to me are:

Darien Lake (only because Beth will be there :p)
Denver (especially if it's at Red Rocks)
The Gorge (thanks for the info, Nurk)
Irvine/San Fran
If Summerfest shows up, I might consider it
I'm also considering Calgary, as I have a friend that just moved there

I supose I'm leaning to the CA shows at this point. But who really knows. I'm like everyone else, my head is spinning!

No Ryan - in the past it has been 10am in the timezone of the venue... so (for me in Chicago) East coast tix would be 9am, Central 10am, West Coast, 12pm...

The stuff I'm seeing today! From the Yahoo article -

... The band last went on tour in 2006. Back then, Petty told the AP that it could be their last. But, Petty said recently, "The band wants to go really bad, so we had a meeting about it, and we decided, why not? ... We're doing a shorter tour that we did the last time."
This tour will be "drastically different in content," Petty said.
"I would like to see a set list that changed every night. I think it's more fun. It's harder on the production people," he laughed.

So Nurk, you have been to the Gorge!! How far of a drive is it from Portland? I was visiting a friend out there a few summers ago and we drove to a turnoff that said The Gorge. It was close to the Columbia River and I thought we were right there. That was about an hour out of Portland. Do you know?

And you made a really good point about the Dream Package last tour. I never thought about it how you put it. I guess it's a better deal if buying a single ticket. I'm feelin' like an arse as I would pay $200 for self but $400 for self and Barf Boy as date seems steep. He just better damn well treat me like a queen that night.

The Ultimate Dream Package $200,000 - a king-sized temapuric mattress with a two-hour private chat with all the band. Nothing sexual, just a warm, cozy chat!

tix are at will-call and always get there the last minute after everyone else is in the venue. i ended up in 2nd row for 1 show, 5th row for another, but every other show i was in front row between mike and tom.

Oh Lizzie, we shall talk soon. You're going to lots of shows. I just looked on the Alaska ferry system website and they won't have their summer schedule posted until mid-Feb.

You know what is really, really, really fun? I feel like a giddy little school girl. It's so cool to get such a rush from the announcement, have a smile all day, take my planner home to see what all Barf Boy will do, share the excitement with others and just kinda enjoy the excitement I feel in my stomach. You wouldn't think I've seen them more times than I can remember to count. I'm sitting looking at the pictures I took of Mike and Tom several years ago, it's what I see when I look up from work computer, and I'm really thankful to get so excited at the thought of seeing them live even after 20+ years of show. How blessed this day is!!!

The Columbia River Gorge outside of Portland is a different Gorge. My sister lives there so I double checked this morning. The Gorge that the concert is at is a 2 1/2 hr drive from Seattle. I wish I were going everywhere on my list. I'll do the 3 Texas shows, plus a one trip/two show deal somewhere. The concert buddy and I are in negotiations at the present. And of course, the husband has to agree to the budget. And if Red Rocks comes up, I'll go there too, if I can swing it.

It's really down to two trips at the momemt. We've added Chicago/Indianapolis to the list of possibilities, as July 2 is Kay's Bday. I doubt I can deny her TPATH on her birthday! The other possibility is The Gorge. I can handle the 2.5 hour drive from Seattle since we'll stay put for 2 nights.

2008 Tour - Yea!

Special Ticket Packages - Yippie! (assuming prices are not astronomical)

Copy of RDAD thrown in - Yawn - Already have two in the house, don't need more.

Pre-Sale on a weekday - Sucks big time for those of us who actually work for a living.

All Pre-sales at same time - Can you say cluster_uck? Predicting overloaded servers, and massive chaos with insufficient time to remedy. I fear this is going to get ugly.

On the lighter side, since my employer is totally unable to commit to schedule dates, if I buy tickets at all it will be at risk of having to not use them when I end up on some business trip at the time of the gig. Talk about stress making.....

OK I feel a little better after venting :)

Enjoy the tour everyone!

Just an FYI - got a response to my questions about the presales -

"If you would like to guarantee that you sit next to friends, the best thing to do is to buy tickets all together. If you buy single tickets, the system will place you in different areas around the venue."
"Yes, ticket packages purchased during the presale window will go against your ticket limit."

Ok - so that means if you are pairing up to get (package) seats together you are cutting into your allotment - just wanted that clarified.
:)

AmyLou
01-25-2008, 09:12 AM
OK - Not being greedy but in my usual info-junkie way, just read this. . .

"PRESALE TICKETS! – These are seats in front of the stage starting in row 2 moving back through the venue, some of the best seats in the house! Exact seat locations are shown prior to purchase of the tickets. These tickets will be sold at face price plus applicable ticket, shipping, and handling fees. At most shows, tickets will be offered in the top two price levels, if not in all price levels. Please note we have done our best to secure the majority of the best tickets available through our presale! "

In theory then - presale tix will NOT get you front row... if that is your goal!

Just FYI...

Athena, Thanks for the clarification on The Gorge. I'm thinking we will do the three shows in Texas and call it good. Barf Boy is on for those. It's nice to dream but with him still in school, three shows will be enough. I'll be stimulating the Tom Petty economy with my tax rebates.

kira, the gorge near portland is not the gorge that the show will take place. i actually drove from portland to the gorge and with some unexpected stops, it took us about 9 hours to get there!! the special package tix get to the venue the last minute at will-call and you find out your seat when you open the envelope.

Thanks for the confirmation on the Gorge. I was thinking we might do the Gorge as we have plans to spend two weeks in Alaska in late July and early August (the ferry pass and pitch tent on the ferry) but the summer ferry schedule is not posted until mid-Feb so I can't be counting on the stars to align in my favor. Nine hours from Portland - yikes! That must be some small, twisty roads. I would like to hear about the Gorge from those who have been there. I have used it as a setting in a novel just from looking at pictures. Details on sound quality, sun setting in canyon, river details. Like, since I thought it was the one by Portland, I had the wind surfers close by.

nurktwin
01-25-2008, 11:45 AM
it's beautiful, you park at the top and look down at the stage and boats in the river behind the stage. it's just that it's in the middle of nowhere. i know i don't have any pix on this new puter, but i'll look on my b/u pc and post a couple pix of the gorge.

I read that the Gorge is considered the most beautiful outdoor venue in the country. I did the cost calculations on that one last night. I didn't realize that the special ticket packages were part of the 8 ticket limit. That puts a real wrench into my plans. With Relic not knowing his work travel schedule it's a real gamble if he buys any of our tickets. So that limits us to 4 shows then...

Kira, I am so excited for you and your trip to Alaska! My whole family did that when I was 15. We used the ferry system and backpacked for an entire month! I have always wanted to do the ferry part again. I don't think I'm in good enough shape to backpack. There's nothing like cuddling up in your sleeping bag on the deck of a ferry!

I know what you mean and yes they are an American Band and they are most successful in their own country, but they could be that successful here as well if theyīd just come over here more often and promote their albums, I think. Itīs not just the fans although itīs sad for them because some might never get the chance to see them in concert. Anyway, Iīm sure some concerts in Europe would be a big sucess for them. Iīm not expecting that they give those long tours here as well, some TV shows and a few concerts in the major cities would be enough. I know itīs not that easy to just fly over and do some shows though, even if they would like to. I donīt think that they can decide everything. So maybe thatīs the reason why they havenīt been here for so many years now.
Lol, whatever, they have achieved so much, they also probably just give a damn... :D

Forgive me if that has been stated already, it's kinda hard to keep up with everyone's posts.. but anyone going to Chicago, Indy, or Ny.. did you see this:

Please consider that with some shows having around 1500 fan club tickets not everyone can have the closest seats (i.e. Chicago, Indianapolis, New York etc.). Additionally, there will be shows where we will have to turn away fan club ticket orders due to a lack of tickets available. We are going to do everything we can to prevent that from happening.

How many of you bought the Dream Ticket Packages last time? Did all of you have to wait until the last minute to get your ticket like Nurk, and you also have no idea where that seat will be located until you get the ticket in hand?

Nylle

dylan, i think that any city that is announced with a TBD or TBA will happen. it's just that management couldn't book a site for the date they wanted, because something else is booked that day. it'll all work out in time (and that doesn't help fans trying to get tix) and to get back to your question, i think it will be red rocks. so start making your plans, you'll just have to wait a bit for it to be announced and get your tix. hang in there, you'll do fine.

DH, where are you sweetie??? :icon_neutral:

Hey MJ! :)

Well as usual I won't be going to the show here in NYC which is at Madison Square Garden. I'm use to this as it happens almost every tour. The last time I saw Tom and the band was in 2001. I saw them once before that as well. And each time I dragged a boyfriend kicking and screaming as I do not know a single person who has the least bit of interest in seeing them. As I'm not seeing anyone currently there is no one to manipulate/conjole/blackmail into going.

But it isn't only that. I was in good shape 7 years ago. 7 years later I have a pretty bad problem with my lower spine and I really don't know if I could physically handle being in a crowd of 20.000 people, all standing and cheering as I would be one of them. This might not be such a good idea.

So yes I do feel very bad about it. :085: On the other hand, as I said, I am very use to this after so many years. The good thing is being on here and living vicariously through others, something I could never do before I discovered this site :). I'm also sure that there will be many people recording and videotaping the shows so I'm sure I'll see lots of great stuff. Well I better lol! :003:

MJ I hope so much that you get to go with your brother in Philadelphia! And I would strongly advise that you bring smelling salts with you lest you faint and miss the whole damn thing! Hahaha!
Seriously, that and cold water. Or a shot of whiskey. (Just teasing ya!)

No matter who goes, I expect lots of oozing details... pictures would be nice too. And much and deserved GOOD LUCK with the tickets situation! I hope everyone on here gets to sit center front row! Well that might be difficult, Ok second or third row!! And give them all a kiss for me if you get backstage. :045: :heart::heart:

Damn, is there really no way that you can go? We could have so much fun together... :003: Iīm not sure, but maybe they have seats at some concerts... I have no idea, Iīve never been to such a big concert.

I didnīt expect that my brother would go with me to the concert, but he told me that he would like to as he loves Tomīs music as well. So he and his girlfriend will go with me and Iīm not alone. :)

Oh yes, since Iīm crazy about photographing, I can promise you that Iīll take a lot of pictures, maybe I can also make videos and youīll be the first, whoīll get to see them. :)
Ohhh sweetie... Iīm so excited..... how can I outlive all this without you? Whoīs carrying me home after I fainted? :D

I am kinda worried about this pre-sale, because of this section of the e-mail that was sent out from the HCC.

JOIN THE HIGHWAY COMPANION CLUB THROUGH TICKETMASTER.COM

Fans can join the Highway Companions club two ways: through HighwayCompanions.com (http://tk.publicaster.com/DC/ctr.aspx?6C6164=31313536383936&736272=197821&747970=6874&66=30) and through TicketMaster.com (http://tk.publicaster.com/DC/ctr.aspx?6C6164=31313536393030&736272=197821&747970=6874&66=30) (during the presale period). During the presale period, fans can visit the ticketing page for a specific date and search for seats. If the fan decides to purchase these seats, the Highway Companions fan club membership will be automatically added to their TicketMaster checkout cart. At checkout, the fan club membership and tickets are purchased together. After this presale has ended, new Highway Companion members will receive an email with instructions on how to complete their membership registration. Once registered, fans can log into the fan club site and take advantage of all the fan club benefits.

If I am reading this correctly, anyone can search for tickets on that day, accept them, and then join the fan club. I thought we joined ahead of time to get this privilege to get to try to find good seats and purchase them early.
