What a great way to spend that 'leap day' on Feb 29th!!!!

Very cool!

YahoooooOOOooOOooOOOOooo!!!!!!

I wonder if they have the same bouncer? That guy was a roll!

I believe the Viper Room is 21 years of age or over.

Relic
01-13-2008, 03:50 PM
From their site... (Took a while to find it)

"The Viper Room is open seven nights a week, and admits patrons over 21 years of age. The club generally opens at 9:00pm and closes at 2:00am. There is no membership required, and cover charges vary. The history of LA's music scene, as well as that of pop culture and music in general, is being made nightly at the Viper Room. ..., never a dull experience."

that bouncer was like the gestapo....lol.

Relic
01-13-2008, 03:55 PM
It seemed like he was playing some scripted part out of a movie...

Every Bouncer cliche from every movie you ever saw, all rolled into one character...

If the same guy is still there it is almost worth going just for the 'outside line' experience :) Kind of like a Disneyland ride but with a Hollywood Club theme instead!

(Thats what Disney California Adventure should be like!)

My father in law wanted a booth (can't stand up all night at his age) and purchased a bottle to 'hold down' a booth.

But I did catch him dancing at one point in the evening :) He may be retired now, but he still knows good rock and roll when he hears it.

I have a Test Review that is now scheduled for Friday. I told my lead "Im going to be in Hollywood Friday night, so if things go long........ See ya!"

I think he understands, but he couldn't resist teasing me about 'working the streets in Hollywood on Friday night.'

The following Monday I jump on a plane and travel to 'Gotham City' for two fun filled weeks of testing on 'Project X'. I'll probably still have the joyous sound of the Knobs ringing in my ears as I get on the plane.

Definitely ready to ROCK and ROLL!

(Not bringing the camera this time. Too much hassle at that venue, although 'interacting' with Casper is almost worth the price of tickets).

They played all kinds of good stuff!

I have fuzzy memories of six shots of Patron and (in no particular order):

Above Water (Absent from the list for a while but it triumphantly returned last night)

Balls Off (They sang theirs off, I drank mine off)
Frankenstein (Are my bolts showing?)
She Said ("I'm driving")
Humdinger (Yes Please!)
Sweet Little Sixteen (Come back in two years)
Wind Cries Mary (Wow)
Minimum Wage (Takes 20 hours to pay off my $157.00 bar tab including tip)
Surf Medley (Wouldn't be a Knobs show without surf guitar)

Athena drove us home.

Athena adds: "We got some great views of Dave's ass at various times during the night" LOL

Dave, you have a stalker!
(I'm going to have to keep my eye on Athena!)

It was a truly wonderful evening of hot music and warm friends. Thanks Knobs!

I forgot to add 'Shake These Blues' to the set list, but they played that one early on in the set.

I like that song. I like it a lot!

Before the gig, while still at work, I was talking to a co-worker and told 'em about this cool song written by JJ Cale about kicking the blues. A lot of us have been feeling the blues at work over this nutty project, and I told my co-worker that I hoped they would play this song because it pretty well summed up my desire to get out of the 'funk' I've been in over it.

Last night Doctors Cale, Campbell, Sinay, Morrison and Laug banished my funk. The only side effect was a little hangover. (Wish my HMO would cover this kind of treatment!)

I got to thinking about work again this afternoon and that triggered my memory of the song last night!

The Doctors were definitely 'In' last night at the Viper Room.

I agree to what has been saud. What a fantastic night. I love the music so much. The band rocked the place but did anyone expect anything else?? Tara and Lissie.... are you Athena and Relic? I BET you two had a blast.... :):):)
It was so much fun to meet more Farmers indeed.

They said No Pictures... well.. I haven't seen more flashed in my entire life. I was blinded myself over and over... but my few drops of civil disobedience in my blood cloned and I too got my camera up... but bad BAD pics this time. I really don't know what was wrong but the light was not very good either and I suppose I was a bit too far back... so sorry guys, no closeups today from this end. I love it when they play Hendrix... "Wind Cries Mary" a beautifully written song... It must have been great.

It was one of those magical moments - I recall asking myself "Is this really happening?".

Such love and passion in the way they celebrate that song.

It felt like a lover's kiss. And for a while, time stood still.

Just got home and I'm wiped. I will have a review and some pics tomorrow. I had a fantastic time at the show. The Knobs were on fire! We do have some stories to tell about the patrons as well.

Here is one of my pictures for you....I love these guys.

Marion, I love that picture! :055:

That was one amazing show! I must say the staff was Sooo nice. The guy working the bar wouldn't even take money for me and Ref's coke. What a sweetheart.

The opening acts were pretty cool. I especially enjoyed Leroy Powell and his band. That was some good country music. Along with other things. ;) I think they got the crowd pretty excited.

The place was packed and the band was on fire. The guys were all looking and sounding great. It was one of those shows you were really glad you didn't decide to stay home. I just have to say this though. I can not take that Viper room again. The people are took drunk, it's too damn small and too hot. Although, in the end it was worth it. But I have to ask, what was with all the drunk chicks pushing their way in front of people? I figured I had one run in with LAPD last weekend down there and I didn't need another one so I had to take frequent outside breaks to cool down.

Anyway, "Never Gonna Own Me" always gets me going. I love them opening with that one. And, always, always love "Loaded Gun", "She Said" and one of my all time favorites, "Bride of Frankenstein". But this morning I woke up with "Mama Told Me" in my head. I love that song. And who can argue with the power of that "Guitar Boogie Shuffle", a forever crowd pleaser. Gator, Ape, Swampfox and Crawdaddy, you guys are the best and I'm going to miss seeing all of you this summer.

It was a fantastic weekend. Best of all I got to see all my friends and I didn't lose my bra or get detained by LAPD for snagging lemons off a tree. So I guess it was all good.

Gator, Ape, Crawdaddy, Swampfox, you guys are the best! Thank you all for the fantastic music.

^hey Sharon, I woke up today with "Fat Guy in a Little Coat" playing in my head, LOL

I just got in myself...the show was absolutely killer. I need to chill for a bit before I write some more, but the set was fantastic.

Thanks to Marion, Teresa and of course Sharon for hangin' on Sat night...wasn't happy hour fun? ;)

What a fabulous night of music! It was so nice to see everyone again. Whole different ballgame without Casper. lol The door guy was so nice! I agree that it is too small, hot, crowded, etc. You get spoiled when you see them play where you can actually sit down. The drunk girls were not from here...that I know of. lolol Let's just say I got my arm 'caressed' by a nearly falling down drunk idiot of a woman. YUCK! She moved on down the line when I didn't 'caress' back. haha

All of the songs were perfect! Above Water was beautiful! Thank you Mike, Jason, Matt and Lance for a great night and for always being so gracious. I'll miss you while you are on your summer break!

With love from Kansas,
Teresa

What a wonderful night. Great to see Ref and Echosoft again. And Michelle, Paul, Bob, and Kevin. Always honored to be hanging out with Relic and Athena. We seem to have gotten a good spot near the stairs...Susie is always the best travel partner.

Hard to hear Dead songs last week, but the band held it together. And I will never forget Crawdaddy coming down after the show and giving me the most loving and compassionate hug. It will never be forgotten.

What can I say? The band was just on fire!

Here is the setlist.

Never Gonna Own me
Minimum Wage
Shake These Blues
Humdinger
Wind Cries Mary
Good Thing Going
I Sang My Balls Off For You/Deal
Above Water
Working Class Hero
You've Got To Hide Your Love Away
Rings Around Uranus
So Tired
She Said
Mama Told Me
Loaded Gun
Sweet Little Sixteen
Anyway You Want It
Bride of Frankenstein
Guitar Boogie Shuffle

They played some incredible jams on all of the songs really. I especially dug "Above Water," "Guitar Boogie Shuffle " & "Shake These Blues. " "Bride of Frankenstein" and "Humdinger" had extra kick too.

It was a great feeling when everyone in the place was singing, "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away." Love that song, "Mama Told Me." It's funky with a little touch of Hendrix!

It was so nice when Gator dedicated a song for Mike Smith of the Dave Clark Five and they kicked butt on "Any Way You Want It! "

They seemed to put extra spice in everything. Loved it when Swamp Fox sings on "So Tired." He's got a great voice! He should get more mic time!

The crowd was drunk and rowdy. It was hot in there and the drunks were getting on my last nerve! Most of the drunks I ran into were woman moving in and out of the crowd and rubbing all over us as they went by. They think they are cute but ladies, we are all there for the music and you are bothering people! Get lost!

On the first song, someone threw a roll of toilet paper up on stage and it whizzed right past Ape's head! No one picked it up and it laid there all night. Ape just laughed it off. Here it is laying on the floor.

http://www.mudcrutch.com/photos/data/587/DSC01882.JPG

I love Ape's smile. He's having a great time! He smiled a lot!

http://www.mudcrutch.com/photos/data/587/DSC01889.JPG

You think he loves playing with Mike?

http://www.mudcrutch.com/photos/data/587/DSC019021.JPG

I take so many pictures because I'm trying to get that ultimate shot of Ape. He makes the best faces when he plays. One of these days I'll catch THE ONE!

http://www.mudcrutch.com/photos/data/587/DSC01892.JPG

Lance had some incredible bass lines last night. Everything just sounded so good! He told us that he was going to be working with Courtney Love. Sounds like a scary job to me! haha! Good luck with that Lance!

http://www.mudcrutch.com/photos/data/587/medium/DSC01890.JPG

They just jammed and jammed all night long.
http://www.mudcrutch.com/photos/data/587/DSC01905.JPG

Swampfox got a great solo during Rings Around Uranus! I wish we could see him better. He sounds so good and he is a super nice guy. Thanks for always being so happy to see us! You're awesome!

Gator said this was the last show till after summer. :085: I will miss them but I know Gator has a full plate this summer and I look forward to that too!

Dirty Knobs, thanks for being so kind to us and chatting with us for a bit after the show. It was worth putting up with the freaks and drunks!

Knobettes, you are the best! We did have some adventures and laughs this weekend! Mr. Ref looked out for us and kept us in stitches.

Oh, I've got to give Kudos to the Leroy Powell and Paul Chesne Bands. They were really good! The Viper Room knows how to pick some great bands!
