Legendary singer/songwriters James Taylor (http://www.livedaily.com/artists/115.html) and Carole King (http://www.livedaily.com/artists/1089.html) will return to their roots this week, performing several shows at The Troubadour to help the famed Los Angeles-area nightclub celebrate its 50th anniversary.
Taylor and King will take the stage Nov. 28-30, playing two one-hour sets each night. The performances will feature songs from their 1969 debuts at The Troubadour and will reunite them with The Section players: guitarist Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel and bassist Lee Sklar.
Proceeds from the shows will benefit several charities including Natural Resources Defense Council, MusiCares, Alliance for the Wild Rockies and the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank.
"In these walls, there is a deep musical history that spans many generations," Troubadour booker Brian Smith said in a statement. "To have Carole and James back to help celebrate the last 50 years and to bring in the next 50 ... is quite an honor."
Taylor made his solo debut at the club in July 1969 and King joined him on the Troubadour's stage later that year, marking her debut as a solo artist, according to a press release. Both have since become multiplatinum-selling artists, Grammy winners and members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame.
This month, Taylor released "One Man Band," which captures a couple of July performances at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, MA. The CD/DVD collection features new versions of some of Taylor's biggest hits, including "Carolina In My Mind" and "Fire and Rain," interspersed with his anecdotes on the inspiration for the tunes. It also includes exclusive interviews, home movies and personal photographs.
King released a new live DVD, "Welcome to My Living Room," last month. The set features 29 songs from her sold-out 2005-2006 Living Room World Tour, including 21 Top 40 hits, seven No. 1 singles and 11 tunes that didn't make her 2005 "Living Room Tour" live CD.
In addition to Taylor and King, The Troubadour has helped launch the careers of a host of superstars, including the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt and Elton John, to name a few.
