Ok here's something that might be fun and has probably been done before.....but what was the first LP or Cd you owned ?
The first LP that I'm aware of is a Ricky Nelson LP that was my older brothers. It had a song on it called "Thats All". and came out around 1960. I have it now on Cd, and its cool to listen to it....
but my first one that was actually my "own" was one that I got for christmas in 1965.
"rubber soul"......my Mom knew I liked the Beatles so she just asked for their latest record ! What an LP ! What a mom ! The stereo version yet ! Which was cool until 2 years later my player's one side stopped working and I thought that I had somehow messed up the record cause the voices were gone on some songs ! lol I went and bought the mono copy and all was well ! Oh the memories everytime I hear those songs !
She also bought "rainy day woman" in '66 for herself cause she liked the tune !

Excluding the Partridge Family albums (LOL), my first real album was "Machine Head" by Deep Purple.
My sisters had a bunch of Beatles albums and singles. I can only imagine how much some of those Swan Records singles must be worth today.

We had these Alan Sherman LPs, listened to them over and over. My first LP I can recall was the Fifth Dimension (the one with the balloon on the jacket), also Herb Albert & the Tijuana Brass.

My first record was Walt Disney's Happiest Songs which you could buy at Gulf gas stations. My dad got it autographed by Louis Prima for me, still have it. Then I had a couple Banana Splits EPs that I got by sending in some cereal box tops. "Tra La La" and "Doin' the Banana Split" I think they were. A couple years later I got the LP "Let It Be" for my birthday. I really liked it but they didn't make any more records after that, I guess they broke up or something.

^ HAHA! Teresa!
I remember my first album very well. It was Carole King's Tapestry. I wore a hole into that album. I still play it regularly to this day. The music is timeless and it's held up very well over the years.

Oh gosh...my dad used to get promos from record companies. I got a lot of hand me downs from my sister, too.
My favorites were the Monkees and the Lovin' Spoonful. I think the first one in my possession was the Hayley Mills Pollyanna record...lol

My mother was always into music and had lots of LP's, 45's, and 78's, so she started buying me albums when I was young. I had all kinds of Disney shows on vinyl. Greyfriar's Bobby stands out in my mind. Wish I still had those today. Alvin and The Chipmunks. The Monkees. I got The Beatles HELP! when it first came out. (We went to see the movie, too.) Then more Beatles albums. (My mother belonged to The Capitol Record club, and there were alwasy LP's showing up at the house!) Probably the first things I bought for myself would have been Neil Diamond Gold, Recorded Live At The Troubador, and Three Dog Night, Captured Live At The Forum. That was after having seen both of them live, and I was trying to recapture/relive that excitement from the live show!

wow that's hard to answer. i could easily say 'meet the beatles' but i'm not sure on that album, but i think that was it. there were singles like telstar and others before the beatles. and even andy williams 'hard to get used to losing you' or something like that. we always had music in the house and it's hard to know when the change over really took place.

hey ref, believe it or not, the old VJ, tollie, swan, mgm and other 45's are not worth that much. it's the single picture sleeves that are worth all the money. and believe it or not, the usa releases sleeves are worth the most! for some reason the usa capitol released sleeves are worth the most and they were the most sold! strange, isn't it? and i have those sleeves put away.

Meet the Beatles was the first album I ever owned, too. I'll never
forget the Christmas morning when I opened that - I was SOOO
excited. Before that I always just listened to my sister's stuff when
they'd let me.
Hey Tim, I had that Herb Alpert "Whipped Cream" album, too. I loved

Thats funny, over the years whenever I'd meet other guys my age and we started talking about LP's, someone would mention that cover, and everyone would remember it. I can remember looking at it and quickly putting it back when I seen my Mom coming toward the record dept. ! What an innocent time in our lives !
It's amazing how many Herb Alpert LP's you see in garage sales, etc. now a days.
He sold tons of LP's back then.
